My DS is a C2C (almost a firstee) but we have very good friends whose son received a letter last month saying he wasn't accepted to USAFA this year or the prep school and to feel free to apply next year. He accepted a 4 year ROTC scholarship at the state university and was moving along with his plans. This morning he got an email saying he WAS accepted to USAFA this year and he has until Wednesday to make his decision. He is feeling conflicted because he had gotten used to the plans for the State University and ROTC.
We told him that this is a huge test of whether he really wants to go to the academy. That his 4 years at the academy will be full of ups and downs just like he felt over the last month and he needs to REALLY want it to go.

Has anyone else gotten a TWE and then subsequently gotten an appointment?

The appointment thread had this the other day. There are appointment offers after TWE.

TJP

Just got a call that my DS was offered an appointment!!!! Wow, after the disappointment of not getting an appointment we had put USAFA behind us and committed to USC. My DS is shocked but extremely excited and grateful at the same time!!! Answered prayers! Now, time to scramble and figure everything out.

Three years ago we went through the same thing. DD is now almost a firstie. We had put our deposit in at another university and everything. We did scramble the whole month of May and June in 2010. She had remedials to finish up. It was not her first choice by a long shot, but economically it was the right choice for her. There have been ups and downs, not gonna lie. She is happily looking forward to Ring Dance and her senior year. I think the hardest thing for her has been not moving into an apartment like most of her friends, she yearns to cook her own food on a regular basis at this point-Mitch's has never been her favorite. Dorm life for four years is not for everyone. I am sure, next year will be a struggle at times, you just have to keep your eye on the future.

One of my candidates got the better luck next year letter. 2 weeks later he received a falcon scholarship. He turned that down. 2 weeks later, yesterday, he received an appointment to the academy. Which he accepted. Talk about a rollercoaster. Plus he had numerous other scholarships he was holding on to.

Congrats to him! What a ride!

He still would have gotten the Academy offer had he accepted the Falcon scholarship, correct?

A Falcon is released from the FF scholarship if they receive an appointment.

I received a letter from USAFA on March 31st saying I didn't get in, try again next year, etc. The next day (1 April) I received a letter from my congressman (the one I received my nomination from) saying congrats for getting accepted into USAFA. Talk about mixed messages and a confusing couple of days

Glad it worked out for you. Thanks for choosing to serve. :thumb:

My DS got his rejection in early March. When he received his appointment to West Point a few weeks later, he accepted it knowing it was his only chance left for a SA. So he received his AFA appointment now and is having a hard time deciding which to accept since WP accepted him early and without reservations, but AFA is what he's wanted since childhood. It was confusing and we called the admissions office to make sure it wasn't sent by mistake!

Just some FYI to everyone...

I spoke with the "head honcho" at USAFA admissions today. Very gracious on the phone which honestly surprised me because we've not had a wonderful relationship in our past. But hey, professionalism is alive and well and I was greatful!!! :thumb:

The appointments were selected on razor-thin margins...folks that got the TWE not too long ago were OH SO CLOSE to BFE's...so...when folks turn down appointments (we have 5 in AZ that did that!!!) then BFE's are sent immediately to the next folks on the list.

So while it seems crazy there really is method in the madness!

It's not over...

That, and it seems you are going to give some candidates a heart attack... and a case of confusion.

EDIT: Still has to be great to get a BFE though. Even if you already got a TWE.

Thanks so much for the information Flieger83!
Our friend's son was a bit disoriented by the change for a day or two (had to wrap his head around the whole concept) but now he is full speed ahead excited for his appointment.
We told him to get used to being disoriented
