Looking at my son's appointee package it stated you could buy these and will need these. Where do you find them, what do you look for when buying a set (certain criteria) and how do they work? I have never heard of these.

    Thanks!

Based off of your thread title, molded cleats and boots are two separate things.

Molded Cleats are like Football or Soccer Cleats, they are essentially plastic and best used for turf/short grass.
http://store.nike.com/us/en_us/pw/mens-football-cleats-spikes/7puZoonZoi3Zpcr - this link brings you to Nike Football. Being a football player for my whole life, Nike really delivers good cleats. They may be pricey but honestly it is worth it. They may be alittle flashy, but Nike gives options for "All black" or "All white" or if you really want a "Blue White".
http://store.nike.com/us/en_us/pw/soccer-shoes/oi3Zpd4 - this link is for soccer cleats... I don't have much to say because I never played soccer.
https://www.underarmour.com/en-us/m...41&gclid=CICZro7I2csCFQHd6QodavIMWA&gclsrc=ds - This link brings you to UA football cleats... Id rather stick with Nikes, because the UA are over-the-top with the High Ankle Support (Upper Class Cadets might make fun of you lol)
https://www.underarmour.com/en-us/s...22&gclid=CMm4-d7I2csCFU5ENwodx6UJAw&gclsrc=ds - Again, UA soccer cleats... don't have much to say.

In my opinion, if you're looking for stability and strength and durability - go for the football category, Im assuming soccer cleats are much lighter, so if your son would prefer lighter weight, go for socer.

I know the Appointee Packet has a link for boots.

Following up on MajorLazor's post, soccer cleats (or "boots" as they are known in football circles) will also be less durable than a football cleats because the leather is more like a glove leather to allow you good touch on the ball with your foot. Soccer shoes also may not have as much foot support as a football show. "Cleats" can be either molded studs or screw in studs. The molded kind are what you would typically see in a pair of football or soccer shoes. Screw in studs are typically longer, sometimes metal, and are for natural fields that are wet. In an NFL or college game in the rain, you may see the equipment manager changing out the players' studs for longer studs.

Back in the day cleats were issue items. If I ever wore mine - it was during field day events in BCT and I honestly never remember wearing them

If USAFA is telling you to bring your own cleats - consider how your cadet will use them before purchasing.

I never played intramural soccer football or flickerball and almost always played a court sport - basketball and team handball.

My issue cleats went to goodwill after my first year

I think my DS is just going to bring his football cleats. They are broken in.

Don't stress the cleats. You'll only wear them during BCT if you're in an intramural sport that needs them. Make sure you have a pair that fits, but no need to spend tons of money on these. I played intramural tennis during BCT, so I've never even had to wear mine.

If you have questions about a specific type or whatever, shoot me a PM and I can steer you in the right direction.

The cleats are something we just bought at Academy a few days ago. I was advised in a parent group to just buy some soccer cleats. No biggie. The boots are very specific. Several of us have ordered them online. They run anywhere from $165-$220.
