Mom of CGA applicant

Hello, my daughter just applied last minute to the Coast Guard Academy for class of 2016. Its all new to us since she never considered this route but was invited to apply by the Genesis Invitational. We live in the Shenandoah Valley of VA but originally from Miami, FL.

Welcome to the forums and good luck to your daughter! I hope she learns about her responsibilities and opportunities at the CGA (if that was really a last minute decision).

Thanks for the welcome. She has been very pleasantly surprised at what she is finding out. The CGA appeals to her love for adventure, the water and serving others especially in need. She was originally headed out west to Wyoming to study at an outdoor leadership school that follows a Great Books curriculum taught in socratic seminar style. The invitation to the Coast Guard Academy just wasn't expected. But she is very honored and now looking at an incredible opportunity she never thought possible.

She has an interview on Friday and all that is left to do is her PFE (which I know she will do fine) and the medical one. They are flying us up on Wed to spend a couple of days there.
