More Shoes Confusion

The booklet for accepted applicants says that I should buy non patent leather low quarters and boots. It also says that I should wear one pair of "comfortable, well-fitting, inexpensive, black leather laced shoes with plain toe and rubber heel when reporting to West Point".
The physical description of the shoes I wear to WP sounds a lot like low quarters. Will I only be wearing the shoes that day? That would make the inexpensive part make sense.

My son showed up in his low quarters, black socks, khaki shorts and a polo shirt -- the cosmopolitan look gave me a laugh -- I think WP adds the description of black shoes in case some new cadets can't get the low quarters in time.

You will wear those shoes a lot. You need to get them as soon as you can, and then get them broken in. The first day you will spend so much time in them...if they are not comfy to you, you will be sorry.

Ok that makes much more sense, so much more practical than buying two identical pairs of shoes!
