Hey everyone,

I initially applied for the USMA Class of 2013. I was not accepted. I just have a few questions, and then I also would like some advice on what I should do when I re-apply for the class of 2014.

My first question is when you are at the academy, how does the seperation system work for ACADEMICS only. How many classes can you fail? Do you have to retake failed courses?

Are there courses that you must take your plebe year? For instance, is everyone in calculas 1 their first year?

Now, as for the brilliant advice everyone here is going to give me... =)

Here are my cridentials:

I will be attending the University Of Toledo this fall, on a four-year Army ROTC scholarship. I will be participating in Ranger challenge and Pershing Rifles.

My GPA in high school was a 3.3. I graduated 75 out of 400.

I was in Junior ROTC in high school for all four years, I graduated as the Battalion Command Sergeant Major.

I was in the Kick Off Mentor Program.

I was on the Raider Team, Drill team, and Track and Field in high school.

I was the leader of the raider and drill team for two years each. Recieved plenty of awards to include:

National APFT ranking of 18th for the 2008-2009 school year.
State Raider individual APFT champion
The team I lead was 2nd in the entire country.

I have the national physical fitness award, as well as a consistent 300 APFT score. (pushups, situps, 2-mile run)

I took the ACT:

MAth- 20
Science reasoning- 20
English- 28
Reading- 23

So what should I do while in college to get into the academy this time around?

On another note, should I join the national guard while in college? Would that help my application?

ANY advice you guys can give me on getting in would be so appreciated you don't even know.

Sorry man, I don't know the answer to any of these questions, but in the response on helping to get in to academy, I would say try to raise those ACT scores. That's all I can say.

It all depends. Your record will be put before the Academic board with input from your TAC and teachers. They will make the decision.

Yes and yes.
The curriculum is pretty regimented the first two years. You will take placement tests so you will be in the correct Math and Chem sections and to see if you can validate out of classes.
For those going to college and re-applying this is one reason why it's beneficial to take "plebe year" classes in college.

It's up to you if you want to join the Guard. Honestly, you should not spread yourself too thin. consider just doing ROTC this year and then SMP next year if you don't get into USMA again.
That said - yes, joining the guard will help. You will be considered prior service.
Now I am gonna be honest here -
Your Math score is really too low. Definitely take Pre-calc this fall and Calc next fall if you can.
At USMA you will have to take a lot of Math - it's high level, 2 courses beyond Calc I. If you can't master Calc I then seriously consider staying at your college in ROTC.

If your math can't be raised significantly, I would imagine you would be offered a spot at the prep school. This would cause you to wait yet another year to be commissioned.

If USMA isn't for you, don't despair. ROTC is great and if you join the Guard you can do SMP which is really good too and there are lots of benefits to that.
Good Luck

If you fail three or more classes your out!

Reference: Absolutely American 4 years at West Point

You can be separated if you fail less than three classes. The Academic Board has the final decision.

Yeah bro same thing happened to me. I captained out RAIDER team and was a state wreslting captain. Its our scores, the academies want at leats a 25 or 26 in math. I aced the reading 30 in english 29 in sci reasoning but I made a 24 in math, im guessin thats what put me out of the running.
