Multiple Deposits?

cjs: ditto the pressure, and I hope it all works out for all the posters on this board. This IS a difficult time, as we all try to help our young adults, as best we can, to get the best start as they head out to become adults, whether WE like it or not!!

For the most part I gotta agree with hwtdad. I had never heard of the NACAC before last night. I went to their web site, and did not after just skimming their "best practices" find the prohibition against double deposits. It WAS contained, however, on a pamplet produced by them as a student "responsibility." Since I am not a member of NACAC, I would never feel bound by anything they say; I am not "in privity" with them. Further, none of the offers my son received contained any such prohibition. Accordingly, I am not convinced of the "you can't do it" argument from a legalistic perspective.

Now, the morality of the issue is an entirely different issue perhaps not as easily resolved. It is hard for the student trying to get in a school off a wait list understanding why another student might be trying to hold two (or more) slots. I get that. Ultimately, I guess you have to try to do the best for those you love the most and help others as much as you can. I would certainly advocate releasing any holds on school spots or scholarship offers as soon as possible. I know this issue was raised in the SA forums some time ago, and most seemed agreable to holding a spot in a civilian school once an appointment was received at least until I day or the end of "beast" so that if injury precluded continuance at the SA the student would have a place to go and would not lose a year.

Ultimately, I think schools will be admitting student until the day class begins. It continues to make the situation nerve wracking. I guess that is because of all the variables, and maybe mirrors the choices the young people have to learn to make.

Then again, maybe I don't know anything. Good luck to all.
