My BGO just told me to expect an invitation for a dinner.. He said it's for some of the most interesting candidates in my area... Anyone heard of this?

Not sure. I had a pizza mixer 2 months ago that my BGO set up. Sort of a way for the candidates to meet each other. Maybe that's what yours is like.

Practices vary, but in the northeast section of Ohio the local Parents' Club sponsors a dinner each spring (about March) for the candidates (and their parents) who have received appointments, LOA's, NAPS or Foundation offers, or are considered to be hot runners for an appointment. It is a very nice affair with current parents of midshipmen, some midshipmen home on leave, a guest speaker, and several BGO's and/or the Area Coordinator(AC). There is a short program, usually a change of club officers, some words on the current status by the AC, and a short personal story about experiences of Annapolis and the Navy or Marines by the guest speaker. It is very worthwhile attending unless you have a major exam the next day. Getting an invitation is not a guarantee of getting an appointment, but it usually is a good indicator that you are a viable candidate/nominee.

DS just received an invitation to a Blue and Gold Candidate Dinner as well. He was deferred back in December pending 1st semester transcript and updated Calculus teacher recommendation - both were submitted and his candidate portal updated. We have heard that being invited to this dinner is a honor and we are all praying and keeping fingers crossed that this is a positive sign and will lead to an appointment!

I omitted from my response that some MOC's or alums host an event to honor the successful candidates. At one time the Ohio AG, NA'63, hosted an event for all of the Ohio appointees (about 40 on average) to celebrate their achieve- ment.
