probably not academically qualified due to low SAT scores good grades excellent leadership (boys nation) athletics what will happen

I think you should post some specifics about your qualifications. Perhaps someone will be able to give you a more accurate appraisal with some details.

Sorry I am new at posting. I am a senior in high school 7th in my class, 3.7 GPA, mid 500's for SAT's (taking again and again) Captain of soccer and basketball teams. Boys Nation representative. Have application nearly complete, DODMERB qualified will do CFA when back in school

I found the following stats from 2008. While you'd certainly want to be in the top half (or higher) of theses numbers, remember that half of all admitted cadets are in the bottom half (or lower). Study for the SAT and re-take it. If the USMA is what your really want don't quit...this is supposedly the easy part. :wink:

Test Scores -- 25th / 75th Percentile

* SAT Critical Reading: 560 / 670
* SAT Math: 590 / 680

I am not discouraged at all. I want this to be my future. it is just so hard to stay positive with the competition. I will keep trying. What do you know if anything about the strength of Boys Nation to the academy

"Supposedly" Boys nation is weighted similar to Boy Scouts as an EC. I certainly hope so as my son also attended Boys Nation. :thumb:

I would switch to the ACT. My cadet found the ACT to be a better fit for him.

Alot will depend on how competitive your District is.

Try ACT as DL posted. My son scored much better in that than SAT.

You sound like a strong candidate EXCEPT for the low SAT scores. As shown in another post, your SAT scores put you in the bottom 25% of applicants.

However, SAT scores are only one (but important) part of your record. My MALO told me that these scores are important because everyone takes the same exam. A 3.7 GPA in one High School is different than the same GPA in another High School-some schools are much more difficult than others.

You certainly can get in with these scores since your record seems strong in other areas. To be more competitive, you need to get your scores - especially Math - up in the mid-600s or higher. I do not have hard information on this but, the people who got LOAs seemed to have combined SAT scores in the 2100 area. Your approximately 1650 score needs to be improved.

USMA sees SAT/ACT scores highly, maybe more so than GPA. DS had low GPA of 3.2. But his good ACT scores got him in to Class 2014. So I know it's very important.
