The views below are mine alone.

Nearly a decade ago, I joined this site to help provide accurate information to those trying to navigate the complex and occasionally tortuous process of applying to service academies. It was, and remains, an effort about which I am truly passionate.

My participation on this site has always been solely as a volunteer. As a moderator, I tried to keep discussions civil and ensure, to the best of my ability, that statements made about service academies were accurate. I have never served as the site’s legal counsel nor provided legal advice to the site or anyone associated with it.

When allegations initially were raised about posts made by TPG, I assumed it was yet another “he said/she said” situation in which one poster had a personal grievance against another. My initial response reflected that view as well as the fact that TPG’s posts were not confrontational towards other posters. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that someone would fabricate an entire military career, let alone use this site to propagate a fraud about his service – both of which occurred, to my great dismay.

Recent events – including PMs that I consider threatening – have caused me to now approach this site with trepidation. I have come to realize I lack the time, technical skills and resources to be the type of moderator that is needed to prevent situations such as this recent one. Moreover, I am fearful that my posts – which at times may be made in haste – could be misconstrued, mischaracterized, and/or taken out of context, with unfortunate results.

Thus, I recently resigned as a supermoderator. I also will suspend my activity on this site for the time being. Perhaps at some point in the future, I will feel comfortable in returning.

Until the events of the past few weeks, I sincerely enjoyed every moment here. I will miss my fellow mods, the members whom I have befriended over these many years, and most of all, the terrific young men and women whom I hope I have helped on their path to becoming leaders in the U.S. military.

Fair winds and following seas.

USNA1985, thank you so much for the service and advice you have provided on the forum. I haven't posted a ton, but while my son was going through the process last year, I read almost all of the posts, at least on the USNA forum. I'm sure everyone chooses whose opinion and advice they give the most weight to. Whenever a discussion I was interested in would arise, I would just wait to see what you and fellow member, NavyHoops, had to say. It's really sad that this is happening to the SA Forum. Selfishly, I am sincerely thankful it didn't happen last year, when I knew less, and combed the forum for answers.

You will be greatly missed. I hope that you will not suffer for volunteering your time to help others navigate these waters.

Fair winds and following seas.

WHAT? This is irritating. We are losing good, no great, moderators because someone was a liar? Why should a terrible faker get to create so much chaos on this forum.

I am sure you USNA1985, you dont even know how many people you have helped. 4 years ago, on this thread I "met" four women. All of our kids ended up in different branches and in different places, but we are now best friends. We vacation together, talk almost every day and have been there to support each other, all originating from this SAF. While you may think that you personally USNA1985 didn't make a difference, that this SAF would be the same without you-I can tell you definitively this is not true. The four of us moms were all getting bullied by Whistlepig -we all thought about quitting-thus not able to finish getting the guidance we needed to get our kids through the applications, we didn't know who to trust. We trusted you.

Im just reading that thread now (to be honest I really only read the ROTC stuff now and the occasional USNA stuff) this is total BS-it is not your job to 1.) play Forum truth sayer 2.) give out personal information on posters 3.) participate in an 'outing.' I can appreciate the work stolen valor does -I truly can. but YOU did not sign up to be a stolen valor operative. This page is about helping kids who want to be officers and that was your mission. Period.

I respect the stolen valor people a great deal. They are though, a (necessary) part of the ****show. they do good work, for sure, but the reason they do good work is 'not a single **** do they give' about how things are supposed to be done. They find the bad guy, they out them, leaving carnage in their wake. Stolen Valor cares not one bit about the mods, the kids working on their future by applying to service academies or ROTC scholarships, their families, or SAF in general. If they cared about the 'irrelevant' details, they wouldn't be as successful as they are. SAF is collateral damage -and it is so unfortunate!

I understand your choice and I support you-I just want to thank you for everything and encourage you to keep posting as a member if not a moderator.

Fair winds and following seas to you too.

You have indeed impacted many lives.

God bless and God speed to you and your family. We will miss you.

USNA 1985.....
For EVERYONE who posts and offers advice to someone on any forum, there is a risk that the individual is not who they claim to be. Anonymity is a double edged sword and therein lies the rub. What is tragic, is that the mods are the folks who keep a semblance of order and hence amplify the value of this forum.

I will always be grateful to USNA1985 for the even tempered approach you took with all inquiries. Thank you for everything you have done for the bona fide posters on this site. Invariably, there will be those that post who are frauds, but that is the price we pay for the 24/7 access to great wisdom and the ability to do ask these things anonymously.

Thank you, USNA1985!

Honestly, if TASheehan and Co. are using threatening language, take legal action against them. If they're attacking your character, defaming you... Take legal action.

USNA1985: I am sorry you have experienced this situation and support your personal choice to stand down. I do want to thank you for making this forum the special and valuable site that it has become.

Thanks for the knowledge and advice over the years I have read this forum. You will be missed.

USNA1985, many thanks for your service on this forum; take pride in the thousands of lives you have positively impacted!

USNA1985, I am so saddened to read this!

Please do not let the actions of one bully force you out.

MODS! Dont' fold, FIGHT ON!

Godspeed to you and may your family live in His light forever.

You and your wisdom will be greatly missed. I hope that you do not need to stay away for long. You are needed and wanted here.

Usna1985, thank you for all your time and patience throughout the years. I cannot imagine the frustration nor the disappointment you must feel when all you meant was goodness and fairness to all. I hope you do choose to return soon to voice your knowledge and inspiration.

Take Care.
