My son is struggling academically in his Freshman Year....

curious as to DS overall feeling...did he enjoy his 1st semester away from home?? is he looking forward to the 2nd semester??
I think he is trying to keep his chin up, hard since this is the first time he has experienced failing a class. He hasn't mentioned wanting to come home so he's hanging in there. I am sure part of him likes being an adult and the other part wishes things were the way they used to be. God hasn't forgotten him. I am sure He has a plan...

Hopefully, my daughter will get in. She wants to go too. She has a 140 IQ and now we can warn her about the academic challenges, which frankly blindsided us.

Just remember, a 140 IQ won't make it easy…. if she's got good time management that will go a long way.

I wish I could do Calculus and all of the difficult Math. I could learn it, but even a mother's love has limits...(LOL!) I hated Trig in college.

Update: He got approved to come see his dad's retirement from the Coast Guard after 27 years. It meant a lot to my husband for him to be here. It's nice to see him again for the weekend. He likes his new Calculus I (taking it again) and Chem II teachers. He has English, which is his strong subject and History which he absolutely loves. I am hopeful that this will be a better semester!!!

We are so Happy for him and you too Mom. As a Mom, I have felt your pain. Ds will be there in April for Academy Experience and eclipse week. Hopefully our boys will be able to meet then. Good things come to good people. Keep the faith. Go Bears and Class of 2020.

Thank-you. DD wants to be in the class of 2021. I pray she gets in because she is a scary driver and I won't have to worry about her driving for 4 years!!!! She is also very smart academically and now we know what to expect so....

A 140 IQ will put her in good company. I am not sure how anyone's IQ is accurately measured though. A better indicator would be the size of her heart, which is impossible to test. (Although the academies seem to have ways)

Glad to hear he has instructors he likes. That goes a long way. Sounds like he will make it. I hope so.

Wonderfulmom, did your Cadet have an activity in the fall semester?

Time Management, when someone asks you the time, don't tell them how to build a clock.

A "D" in Chem or Calc wouldn't require Summer School. However, there may be exceptions for certain STEM majors. Of that I am not certain.

F's send you to summer school, however, grades below a 2.0 are bad and if you have too many (and your GPA is hurt), you may be evaluated for academic probation or disenrollment. It's case by case.

Does a D or an F send you to summer school? Or just an F?

He doesn't have to go to summer school. He's retaking Calc now. He is a government major, so he won't have to take as much Math and Science, if he can get through Calc I and II he will be done with Math. He's better at Science than Math anyway.
