NA Summer Seminar

NASS is partly a recruiting effort by USNA to attract some who might not otherwise be interested/aware of the SA. Some attend and immediately realize this is NOT for them. There is really no correlation between NASS acceptance and getting an appointment. This gets asked every year so there are many threads on this topic. Getting turned down for NASS should not discourage from applying to USNA.

Hi swag, I am also going to the Candidate Visit weekend. I have however heard and been accepted to NASS and ASFA SS. Week one and Session B respectively. I am not sure really what all of this means but I guess any news or acceptance from the academies is good news.

IHTFP is beloved by all services. A truly joint term.

Thanks for posting this! My son applied to NASS and hasn't heard back. He is starting to worry. He got into USAFA summer seminar and Boys State. He has been invited on a CVW at Naval Academy. It reassures me (and him) when we see it's not the end of the world if he doesn't get into NASS.

DS was accepted to NASS last year, the email came on April 7. It is hard to wait, but it is also just the beginning of the wait. Here we are waiting again to see if DS has received an appointment. :) No need to worry, you still have lots of time.

Thanks for the clarification for IHTFP...Lol! Starting to learn all these acronyms. Let's hope our DS gets the optimistic version during his March CVW.

Post spring break and nicer weather does a Mid good! Generally they start to have the spring awakening and optimism of the year wrapping up, Plebe Year ending, summer training, the future all seem to happen around late March and the Brigade collectively gets more optimistic and happy.

Thanks for the optimism! My DS is so honored to be attending I doubt even the dark days of winter would bring him down. Now he's just waiting to hear about NASS.

Just got my acceptance letter!!! I was worried because I applied on the first day. What a relief!

Congrats to all who have been accepted to NASS. I thought I was a patient person but waiting to hear about NASS acceptance is tough. On the other hand I'm looking forward to my CVW later this month.

Son has still not heard from NASS. He was invited to CVW but couldn't attend those weekends due to varsity track meets and club soccer. He's getting frustrated. He got into USAFA Summer Seminar, Texas Boys State and an internship opportunity with NASA this summer. He was really wanting NASS. He has been to USAFA a few times for sports camps and has already been in touch and communicating with USAFA coaches. He has never been to Annapolis and really wanted this opportunity. His stats (grades, test scores, extra curricular, athletics) are on par/above admissions standards. He will continue to wait and hope to hear soon.

Congrats to all those accepted!

I have not received an invite to NASS either. I am anxiously awaiting :). Good luck to all of you. Just curious, I know what a CVW is, but how do they deem you "scholastically qualified" if the preliminary application hasn't come up yet? Do they invite members based on their NASS application? Thank you and sorry for asking a perhaps "dumb" question.

Again! Good luck to all of you and congrats to those already accepted!

So, as far as I know for me, I have applied every year for STEM and that has my grades on it so I'm assuming that is where they pulled it from. That was back in September when I got the invite so there was no NASS Applicatipn to pull from.

I think it's fair to say nobody has this system figured out. My son received his invite to CVW a week after he applied to NASS. He did attend STEM between his freshman and sophomore year. I hadn't thought about that being a factor. So far no word on NASS.
My DS is a good student however not a 4.0 like so many others I read about. He does play a varsity sport, goes to a competitive all boys high school with 400 in his class, Eagle Scout, over 500 hours service hours... Just like so many. I would like to know if anyone has been admitted either to NASS or to the academy itself with an average GPA (3.2-3.5). He Took the SAT for the first time so we're waiting on scores.
I would love to here from some of those "average", albeit above average in so many areas, students.
What are your plan's A-Z?
Love this forum and how much support is out there!
