NAPS vs Foundation

My son got accepted to Valley Forge Military College through the Foundation. He also just received in the mail an invitation to the Candidate's weekend.

kiann1212, It appears that your son is getting mixed signals. To answer your questions directly:

Does the invitation mean he is getting an appointment for the Class of 2013
No. Although CVWs are given to highly qualified candidates, a candidate doesn't have an appointment until given a fully qualified offer of appointment. This tends to indicate that he is still in the running for an appointment to the class of 2013.

or does the fact that the Foundation is sponsoring him this year that he will be part of the Class of 2014?
Not quite, but almost. Over 95% of NAPS and Foundation sponsored students that successfully complete their training are appointed to the subsequent class. This would tend to indicate that he is no longer in the running for an appointment to the class of 2013, but is virtually assured a spot in the class of 2014.

I'd have your son call his BGO to determine his status.

Good to Know

This would tend to indicate that he is no longer in the running for an appointment to the class of 2013,

I was mistaken.

I received a private message about a similar situation where a candidate received a fully qualified offer of appointment to the class of 2013 after having already recieved an offer for a Foundation Scholarship. It is good to know that the admissions folks continue to look at, and offer appointments to, those who have previously been offered foundation scholarships.

Somewhat smarter BGO
