Is there a big advantage in applying at midnight as opposed to around 4 in the afternoon?
I would assume that any time within 24 hours of the opening of the application is good, but just to be safe I'm going to apply at midnight. So basically, it's not a huge deal, but if you can stay up a little later and do it at midnight, then go for it.
Good Luck, hopefully we both get in!
Honestly, I don't think it matters. The USNA folks aren't going to be in until Jan 2.
Are the applications for all of the summer leadership seminars the same? I know the Air force app did not have any essays or recommendations.; however, I don't know for sure whether the West Point app for next week or the Navy app in a couple of days will require different material
Honestly, I don't think that applying at midnight makes as much of a difference. What makes a difference in my opinion is applying within the first week as opposed to applying within two weeks of the deadline. As bbourq5 said, within 24 hours is good because it shows you're dedicated. Personally, I would not sacrifice my sleep to apply at midnight unless you are in a different timezone and their midnight is 9pm where you are. Then it works out
I didn't apply until three weeks after the deadline and I got in...just sayin
I applied at midnight. Got in. most didn't apply until later...and still got in.
The advantage to applying at midnight? It's off your mind (well..mostly and less to do when school starts. from my memory:
USAFA: no essay, but resume required
USNA: no essay but list of courses taken and grades + ecs
USCGA: 2 essays i think? + optional resume
USMA: no essay, very quick as well.
Good luck. Remember, most responses come back in March I believe.
Exactly, personally I'm usually up past 12 anyway so it's not a big deal but don't stress yourself out staying up late if that's not your thing. Just try and get it done sometime that day. The app should only take about 30mins more/less if there are no essays, so it's not like you'll be up all night. But either way I think It's safe to go with the 24 hour rule.
Will the application ask for grades? If so, will it be four semester or five semester?
I wasn't top happy with USNA when they took several months to accept for for NASS. I applied like within in the first week (that changed thanks to the LOA).
On the contrary, WP and AFA accepted me to their SS programs within 2 weeks of applying.
3 SS..... all applied when the app opened..... 2 very different outcomes
Point is- there really is not this crazy need to get the application in within the first few hours of the application opening. Get it in within 3 weeks and you should be just as competitive as people that applied that first hour.
I don't think the first few hours matter, but don't assume they will run the selection process like last year. I remember my boss had a plaque on his that quoted our CEO. It read, "leave nothing to chance". It is good advice to live by. If you have the time, get your applications in early for NASS, NROTC, Colleges, etc.
Good counsel Craig. I believe the better generalization is to apply "early and often." Or at least early. One anecdote is as good as the next but affirms little about the NASS applicant review process. While it may not make any difference, in the absence of any further specific direction or insight on timing, beyond inability to complete the app sooner than later, do it sooner when every possible spot remains hopefully accessible.
Exactly what WP said. If you apply within the first week, you will be okay. Realize this is a BUSY time for Admissions -- being that they are coming back from holiday routine and will be catching up on missed emails, phone calls, etc. and that SAT/ACT scores are incoming, nominations are being submitted, board decisions and meetings are increasing. Getting it done on Tuesday first thing or sometime on Wednesday or Thursday isn't really going to put anyone at an advantage/disadvantage.
just curious...its midnight and the link for the application isn't showing up on their website. is anyone else having this problem?
I'm having the same problem. Let me know when yours comes up and I'll do the same.
alright, good to know it's just not me being stupid haha and will do!
I am having the same issue as well :/
Yea, I am having the same problem also. I keep hitting the 'refresh' button, but no luck
same! like every other minute i'm pressing it haha...so much for sleeping tonight!
It's kind of strange though, because I can get to this directions page, but not the actual application.
