Does anyone know how difficult it actually is to get into NASS? I guess what I am looking for is some sort of stat or any other information that you think may help. For example, for Army, statistically, it is more difficult to get into SLS than it is to be accepted into the Academy itself.

Well, there are about 2,500 spots for NASS and only 1,500 spots to the USNA (someone please correct me if I'm wrong), so its a little easier to get into NASS.

Son attended NASS 2009--We were told last summer each session at NASS had 750 kids (there are 3 sessions)...they told my son they had over 6000 apps for last summer (09) programs...at the end of each summer seminar they had an assembly and told everyone about 1/3rd of you will NOT be here for class of 2014...(either by personal choice or academy choice) We personally know of 6 kids that went to the NASS and did not pursue an appointment, they aboslutely KNEW it was not for them....

If one-third of 750 kids would not be there at the academy a year later, then about two-thirds or 500 will... which sounds like too good of an odds. But then again I understand it's only a very rough guesstimate.

More than 6,000 prospects applied for NASS last summer, and 2,250 were accepted. About 15,000 applied for appointments and about 1,250 were sworn in (about 1,450-1,500 were offered appointments). Acceptance for NASS does not ensure an offer of appointment, nor does rejection for NASS mean that you won't be offered an appointment. Supposedly about 40% of the new plebes had not attended NASS. My advice to anyone interested in earning an appointment to any of the SA's is to give it your absolute best effort all the way; there is no percentage in trying to game the system. Quite often those trying to game the system are overtaken by those who are going all out to get an appointment.

I did mean it like I was trying to play some percentage game to get into the Naval Academy. I was just trying to figure out how much of an accomplishment it is. For my mother seems to think it is a big deal. But I am thinking it really isn't that tough to get in. Thank you for your time and information though. They provided very helpful.
