I am picking my son up from NASS on thursday. Does anyone have any advice on where to stay on Wed. night and how to get to Alumni Hall before 8:30 am for first parent meeting. He flew in on his own but I am picking him up by car because we have plans after. Stadium parking website says first shuttle is not until 9:00AM.

Hello Fellow Dad,
There is a big parking garage in downtown Annapolis called Hillman Garage. It is accessible from Duke of Gloucester, which comes off Church Circle. This street is one way, going away from the circle and entrance to the garage is about 1/3 mile on your left. Once parked, you are less than 10 minutes by foot from Gate 1. There are places to park on streets bordering the academy like King George St, but you are only allowed two hours of park time. I have always found the Hillman garage easy, convenient and close to many good places to eat and have a cold one on a hot, sweaty Annapolis day. Type in Hillman Garage, Annapolis, MD in Google Maps to get a good visual.

As to where to stay, I favor Marriotts. There are several options, all within short driving distance to USNA. The Courtyard works well for me. Other reputable chains are there also.
Cheers...

Hillman Garage Annapolis

Use 123 Main St., Annapolis, as a GPS address. That's actually the address of the CVS on Main St., your geographical marker to turn immediately left, from Main St., into the alley leading to the Hillman garage. You can also turn into the garage (a left) from Duke of Gloucester St., but that is the secondary entrance, and sometimes closed. The garage is cash only, no credit cards.

A word of warning...the Hillman garage occasionally fills up, especially during legislative sessions or other big happenings in town, and though you might see cars leaving the garage with the "no vacancy" sign lit, that doesn't mean you should wait in line to get in. A certain percentage of spaces are reserved for monthly pass-holders, and you don't want one of these folks behind you to be blocked. (It could be me!)

A Plan B could be the other city garage, entrance off Calvert St., up near West St./Church Circle area. More of a hike, but same deal as Hillman.

And, the Annapolis parking patrol is ever-vigilant about the two-hour parking zone, a major source of ticket revenue for the City. There are some longer-than-two-hour spots well down King George St. toward St. John's College. Be sure and read the green signs. Residents, who have the sticker to park on-street 24/7, don't hesitate to call in about sinners, unwitting though they may be.

We stayed at a Hilton Garden Inn when we were there over spring break and it was wonderful and very reasonably priced...
