DS was accepted and attended STEM last summer and had anxiously waited for the FEB. 1 application to open for summer seminar. He applied early that morning and began his waiting process. Today DS finally received the "we are unable to offer you..." letter; however, it invited him to attend a weekend visit set for two weeks from now. He is very dissapointed in that he was accepted in Dec. for West Point SLS and was really praying for an opportunity to attend NASS so that he could compare to the two experiences. From an admission perspective, what will they be looking at during this weekend visit? Any suggestions from the masses would be greatly appreciated as DS is entering his spring break pretty bummed!!

The same thing happened to me with USAFA Summer Seminar. Sorry I can't answer your questions, but at least they are finally sending out NASS responses to all of us still waiting.

I think they gave your son the offer to attend Candidate Visitation Weekend.

Proudmamma - two years ago our son was not accepted to NASS and, like yours, he was very very bummed. But since he's now finishing up his Plebe year at USNA, I guess it didn't make much difference as far as appointments go! :thumb:

The CVW will actually give your son a much better picture of what real life is like at the Naval Academy than NASS would. Since he has already gone to STEM he's had the "camp" experience and is familiar with the campus. In my opinion, a CVW is actually a step beyond NASS on the road to an appointment. In other words, many candidates go to NASS and then are invited to a CVW. Maybe thinking about it this way will lessen the sting a little!

But still, NASS sounds like a lot of fun, and it's a bummer not to get chosen. Hopefully your son will not let it discourage him and will continue to work hard in pursuit of his appointment. Good luck!
