Summer Seminar was so awesome!!! Never a dull moment. Special thanks to MIDN 3/C Eisenhauer for being the best squad leader ever!!!

Any advice for those heading out to Session 2? Anything they need to bring? Heading out tomorrow so looking for any last minute tips!

They were issued two pairs of shorts and five tshirts, sweatpants and a sweatshirt so they probably won't need too many other clothing items. Definitely take back up gym shoes for sea trials and plastic bags for the wet, sandy clothing that will return! Best of luck!

Glad you had a great time.

We are in Alabama tonight, on our way to Annapolis from Texas.

Looks like other than a chance of thunderstorms the first couple days, weather should be great for session 2.

You really don't need much clothing, unless you want to bring different clothes to sleep in. I only slept in my shorts and the color shirt from that day (wanted to save time from changing in the morning). We were issued five different colored t-shirts and every day each company wore a different color.

I had three shorts though and so did my roomates. You wear the shorts with your PT shirt for morning PT and then you shower and change into a color shirt later.

They only issue you ONE PT shirt. It gets really nasty. My squad leader washed our t-shirts on tuesday, so ask your squad leaders if they could do that for you guys. If not, maybe bring some laundry soap so you can wash them in the sink? Or just wear it, it's not too terrible.

The sweatpants and sweatshirts are really comfy... although you have to ruin the sweatpants for sea trials :(

Anyway, the squad leaders were absolutely amazing people!!!!!! Have a blast, guys!

DS is heading to Session 2...(we live in Maryland) If other posting are correct the CFA will be administered on Sunday. The weather outlook calls for hot/humid weather and then the rest of the week should be cooler. But hot and humid here can be nasty :frown:.... so hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.
The kids at Session 1 had fantastic weather. Good luck to everyone and I hope you all have a blast.

IT was an epic week, most fun i've ever had. Those going to 2 and 3 be sure to work hard and never give up, your squadmates will be there to help you along. :thumb: Good Luck

Ditto Maverick! My son didn't want to come home! He said the emphasis on team work was incredible. Loved everything about it, including sea trials and indoc night. Said everyone was amazing!

This is all making me really excited! I'm heading out tomorrow by plane. Couple of
questions for those first-sessioners:

-Do they provide towels?
-Did you ever need cash?
-How badly do the sweatpants get ruined...?

That last one is purely curiosity based :)

No they did not provide towels. The mid store was closed off to us or something, but the last day we were able to buy stuff. Just remember to bring your ID necklace thing.

The sweatpants were muddy and soaked... not completely trashed. Maybe a few washes could fix it up :D

Yeah, it has your name and a card that has your company/platoon/squad... and you stick your own picture id in it behind that card.

Questions about the NASS III

Should the candidate bring money for the week or for the store at the end of the week? Is there a safe place to keep the money? How about if a candidate is flying alone--can he bring a cell phone? Can he use the cell phone during the week? Is there a safe place to keep the cell phone? Should he bring extra food and drink--protein bars, gatorade, water? What day is the fitness test administered? Sorry for so many questions. We are so new to this and have no clue what to expect or who to ask.

what percentage of NASS attendees go on to attend the Naval Academy??

Because I didnt make it into NASS and ive had to sit here and read stories about how great it was etc....and my friend who went to West Point SLS

its pretty depressing.

BUT, the good news is that ive been doing quite well in school and also will be attending Boys State which should help.

But I would like to know if anyone has numbers or a percentage of those who attend NASS actually go to the Academy

Bakmme: The only money your candidate would need is food at the airport depending on when his/her flight gets in. There is no guarantee that the candidates will have time to go to the Mid store, as ours did not, and is not usually able to be worked into the already busy schedule.
Cell phones are allowed, but stay in the dorm rooms all day.
Don't worry about extra food, as there is an abundance of snack boxes provided by the kitchen staff, and water is the best thing to be drinking (which there is also plenty of  )
The fitness test, or CFA, will be administered on Sunday. The candidates can either go to chapel that morning or stay in their rooms and rest, and the test takes place in the afternoon.

HiMyNameIsNick: Only about one-third of the NASS attendees make it into the Naval Academy. The main point of NASS is to help those on the fence decide if the Naval Academy is the right place for them or not. You are at no disadvantage for not having gone. Don't worry :thumb:

If you have any other questions, post on this thread or send me a message, and I will be more than happy to answer!

Go Navy11,

Thank you for the quick response to my questions. It sounds like many pairs of socks will be needed, extra shoes maybe. Do they need a small fan for the room because of the heat? We don't want pack to lightly or to heavy. Any other suggestions? Do they go out on a boat at all?

Extra running shoes will come in handy for sea trials. My DS did not take a fan last week and said the temp in the rooms was okay. I believe you only go out on a boat if one of your 8 seminars is Navigation YP, and then you are out for two hours.

dropped my son off for session 2 yesterday (we are in Maryland) after reading these boards I sent him with a box of small HEFTY bags for those who had no idea they might have wet clothes at the end. I can't imagine anyone packing wet sweats in a suitcaes.

I have heard from him several times. He is having a BLAST and passed the CFA !!!

Definitely bring extra shoes for Sea Trials, as the whole day is spent getting wet/muddy/sandy. If your candidate signed up for the Damage Control class, be sure to bring a change of underwear that day, as the whole group ends up soaking wet and there is not time to go back up to the rooms between class.

Gonavy2015-you are correct about the YPs. YP Navigation is one of the classes candidates could sign up for, and those that did will get a chance to explore the craft as well as take it out on the river during the two hour class block.

Heard from my son as well who's also having a blast in Bravo company. He passed his CFA as well and ran his best mile ever (which is what he runs in track)!! Managed 6 pullups which is double what he had ever done at once before and was happy to be first in his squad in the mile and situps! He got up early today but skipped church and said he fell back asleep for 2 hours and now feels like he's on day 3 instead of two!
