NASS

It sounds like a lot to me, there's 3 sessions, unless my math is off, it's like 18% of the total kids accepted are from Maryland! Correct me if I'm calculating this wrong. Anyway, looks like Maryland is representing a pretty good amount of kids at NASS

I'm no math genius (hence why I didn't go to a SA), but I'm get only 5%. 125 out of 2250.

DS was told very early on by a BGO that in all likelihood he would not be accepted to NASS. One of the reasons he gave was that USNA knows that kids from his HS are fully aware of what USNA life is like and they are familiar with the type of students that graduate from there. True/not true? Who knows! My point is, he really didn't sweat the wait or the "rejection" and went to Boys' State instead. I am thankful that he didn't have to tack on the extra weeks of waiting just to get on the rollercoaster ride we're on now. Some days I feel like I'm on the ride alone and DS is down on the ground just watching me go crazy. Good thing.

Seems high to me, if the 50 states were to be equally represented there would be 45 from each so 125 from one state is a lot.

It is obviously not a "fair share" system to divvy up the slots by 50 states, much like the fact that the brigade is not evenly distributed by states. I recall my DD said HALF of her company is from Florida!

I am guessing they look at the preliminary numbers on the applications and decide who are good prospects. That's why an updated score may help persuade your selection, as Murf pointed out in a different thread what he learned from LT Fogler during his Q&A at CVW.

Anyhow, don't be discouraged if you do not get into NASS. They always go out of their way to remind folks that only roughly 1/3 of each class attends NASS!

So there were 125 kids accepted from Maryland in each session of 750 kids or all 3 sessions total?

I don't know where 125 came from... I said 127. It is the TOTAL from Maryland last year!

Are you sure the 127 was the number accepted or applied? On its face...that seems quiet high. Agreed that NASS slots are not fair-shared across all states...but we are talking about 2.5 times the average amount from a state, that has USNA in the "backyard." Maybe the slide was wrong or not worded properly?

That I cannot confirm. It was on the slides the BGO was showing. He isn't our BGO and I don't know him.

Is alumni association or its chapters able to request/receive numbers from admissions? I saw the numbers of applicants, appointees, NAPS offers for Minnesota recently. It was released when the Supe visited their USNAAA last month.

Area coordinators or admissions might be providing those stats.
I'm guessing 127 MD juniors applied to NASS...not attended.
