National Pool

but Kinnem...(channeling my teenage daughter) it's sooooo hard to google.:biggrin: thanks for the assist. :thumb:

I will readily admit that there is an art to googling... knowing just the right words to use to find what you want and yet limit the search to [mostly] relevant results.

The Vice President is allowed 5 mids at any one time -- just like a MOC

Right. And it's easy to remember this. The VP is the President of the Senate and in regards to academy appointments is treated just like any other Senator. (OK. an oversimplification, but that's what helps to make it easy to remember.)

I can say that my DS got a Congressional nomination (Not the principal - we know the principal got his LOA in early January). Our Senator letter also said they differed to the congressional nomination - so they must communicate to not put same person on two lists in FL (wish they'd communicate so well on all political matters :).

Yesterday, the Congressman came to DS's High School and presented him with a congratulations letter - pulled him out of class and surprised him with it (gym shorts, t-shirt and all). He said the BFE (para-phrasing the congressman) was in the mail and he likes to tell the appointee himself before the packet arrives. So that's two from this district I know for sure.

When he wasn't the principal, we assumed he went into national pool, but cant speculate any further than that - best of luck to those who are waiting to hear.

Totally agree with previous posts - you are still in running until you get TWE.

Congrats, Proudparent!

That is an awesome way to be notified. How exciting!

WOW! How cool for your son! Congratulations. What a great MOC to do it that way.

Congratulations! What a wonderful way to surprise your son! Good for the congressman!

Wow, what a great and memorable way for your DS to receive his appointment! Congratulations!

My DS has been invited to attend a Blue and Gold Candidate Dinner tomorrow night for candidates already appointed and from what we understand, "competitive candidates" still waiting for appointments. In prior years the Dean of Admissions has been in attendance and surprised candidates by actually presenting appointments at the dinner. We are not assuming this will happen tomorrow night but how exciting if it does! DS and my husband are very calm (as ususal) but I am on pins and needles (no surprise)!

Is there a time frame for Congressional Nomination appointments? For the majority of them. Like would the chances of receiving an appointment in that fashion, disregarding the NWL, become slimmer after a certain day or week? Hope this makes sense.

How is a candidate notified if he/she is offered an appointment after being moved to the national pool? Will the
nominating source contact them or will a BFE just show up? Just wanting to know what to look out for!

There is no standard procedure. Sometimes, the BFE just shows up in the mail. Actually, oftentimes, this is what happens. Sometimes you get a courtesy call from your MOC congratulating you on your appointment before the BFE shows up. An appointment is an appointment, whether you had an LOA, whether your nomination was from the president or from a congressman, whether you were a principal nominee or a competing alternate.
