I'm assuming when my Congressman sends a principal nominee or just a slate of names, that I won't win the vacancy. This means I'll go into the national pool correct? If I am going to be appointed from the national pool, when should I expect to hear? March/April? Even May? And if I were to be eliminated from the process, when would I find out?

I'm just trying to create a timeline for myself

Thanks

Why are you assuming you will not win the slate?
But, if you do not win the slate you will compete in the national pool.
Take a look at last year's appointment thread., the last page which lists all the appointments that were reported. The dates are all over the place. One LOA in Feb and appointment in June. An appointment in May 24. Someone in that thread put together an excel spreadsheet. You could sort on appointment date and do a distribution of when appointments were awarded. But does it really matter.

Also, there is no way to know if they appointments were the winner of a slate or from the national pool.

Rejections will follow the same trend, but delayed somewhat. First rejections will go out for those that are not qualified or have incomplete applications.

Basically you will find out anytime between now and May, but most likely before Mid March.

Thank you, I appreciate your insight! I was assuming I wouldn't win the vacancy bc my district is pretty competitive

If your MOC appoints a Principal Nominee, you likely will not win the vacancy. However, that is not certain. There are several items that could trip up the Principal Nominee - CFA, medical, academics, etc. It is also possible that the the principal will decline in order to attend another academy or civilian college.

If your MOC submits an unranked slate, do not assume you will not win. Regardless of competitiveness, you do not know the situations of the other nominees. Some may have other nominations such as senatorial, presidential, etc and will be slotted against those allocations instead of your MOC. Also, recruited athletes will generally not be allocated to a MOC's vacancy.

Whether you are appointed to fill a vacancy or from the national pool, the appointment could come at any time. In general, candidates will receive offers in February/March/April. Highly qualified candidates may receive offers earlier. Some candidates on the NWL will receive offers later, depending on the yield. The wheels inside the "black box" turn at their own pace and in mysterious ways. Don't count yourself out until USMA tells you it's over.

Nothing wrong with running through the possible scenarios and making sure you understand each one. That's just good due diligence.
Keep working on plans B, C, D, and E in the same spirit... good due diligence.

A thousand pardons. I mistakenly posted what I was texting to my wife in response to her question as to where her dog slept in her absence.
LOL! We have a Scottie. Whenever my wife ( a red head) leaves town for a few days, I tell people I shared my bed with a raven haired beauty last night! :-D
