National Waiting List

MAJ B,

I'm just curious, but.. what happens to this "overcommited" class of 2014? Will any special meausres be taken to lower the class size, or will there just be a super large class? And does West Point even have enough room in the baracks for all these extra people?

Thanks!

As far as space goes, there are empty rooms as it is and they also put 3 people into a room instead of 2 when space issues arise.

I thought the class size last year was about the same, 1,300?

I think the issue is that the goad is still 1300, but they've already offered 1700 and are getting less people declining than they were expecting (or than they normally do) and still have some appointments left that they'll have to offer (ie LOA who just needed the waiver they just got), so they're afraid right now that they're going to end up with more than that 1300 come R day.

I would like to say something relating to Just a Moms post, last year the Army may have had a set budget for ROTC Scholarships. But, if you keep up with the news its been known for nearly two months that the army extremely overspent while some colleges used more than their alloted scholarship amounts and may have hurt the number available for this coming fall... so dont be so quick to bash.

Also, I am a college applicant and still have not heard any word as far as anything. I have called but there is no WP Admissions switchboard operator and the Officer in my charge nearly never answers the phone. Is it unusual to have not heard anything yet?

Senior Year Grades

What do you consider bad grades. For example, is a drop from a 4.0 to a 3.5 during senior year bad enough to revoke the appointment?

Do you mean getting a 3.5 on your senior year or dropping your overall GPA from 4.0 to 3.5 in one year? The latter will most likely raise a red flag since it would require around a 2.0 for you to drop that much in one year.

Last week at our local Founder's Day Dinner, Colonel Flowers (current Director of Cadet Activities and our guest speaker) told the crowd that the upcoming class was now up to 1400 accepted appointments. Has anyone else heard that number? He seems a very reliable source.

At our Founders Day dinner last week, Kevin Anderson, the West Point Athletic Director was the guest. He indicated that 1450 had accepted, which was unusual.

About senior year grades: let's say that the seventh and eight semester my GPA each semester would drop to a 3.5 from my usual 4.0 per semester. This would result in a drop from a 4.0 to about a 3.8 overall. Would that be enough to revoke acceptance.

No, unless that included an D or F which could raise some concern especially this year where it seems they are trying to cut out as many people as possible due to overloading the class. A slight drop though won't hurt you though, but don't let that make you too complacent. You should still try your hardest!

This is not correct... if you add up all the current accepts, approximately 80-85% of the current offers, the outstanding Letters of Assurance (perhaps those waiting on last-minute medical clearance), and the other remaining committments to the class, we PROJECT a class size of up to 1,450. Current accepts are fewer than 1,000. The Director of Admissions and the admissions committee are doing everything they can to come in at as close to 1,300 as possible on R-Day.

Cebollas- re-read the last sentence of the paragraph immediately above and take America's Finest's advice with a grain of salt. Nothing is outside the realm of possibility so go get vaccinated against senioritis NOW.

Best of luck to you all,

Major Belmont,

Thanks for the clarification. I did not want to cause too much concern with my post for those still waiting to hear.

As with other colleges and universities, many applicants are now in the final decision phase for their plans for next fall, and the May 1 deadline for many schools is approaching.

Your clarification still provides hopes to those still waiting to hear.

I was recently informed that I was on the NWL. On the letter it says, SEVERAL hundreds of cadetships will be offered to those on the NWL but that seems to contradict what is being said around the forum. Can someone shed some light on this matter?

I feel like it's all about timing. I know of several people who got their NWL letters back in January and then received their appointments a couple weeks later. I know getting off the NWL is based upon your WCS, but it seems like timing also plays some role, since I don't know anyone who's gotten off the NWL from those who got their letters march/april-ish.
So the "several hundred" probably happened way earlier this year...this is just speculation though, I'm not a hundred percent sure.

So basically if you do not have an LOA or are a vacancy winner, then you have no chance of receiving admission if you were waitlisted recently?

Unfortunately, I think for those of us who've received the letter later, chances are extremely slim =/

I was on Spring Break for the last couple of weeks and just got my NWL letter. Mine was signed by the Athletic Admissions Director. Does anyone know if everyone is on the same waitlist - or are there separate lists?

This thread seems to have died, but I have found it extremely interesting nonetheless. One grain of salve for the hopefuls: son received appointment to WP and USAFA and has respectfully declined the WP appointment and accepted the appointment to USAFA. One question to Major Belmont: does son's speeding ticket which was dismissed after community service likely generate the withdrawl of the appointment? Thanks for your imput, knowing that WP may treat these things differently than USAFA.
