If anyone has read the book, does it give helpful information or should I not bother buying it because I was considering buying Reef Points.

You could probably find most of the information in the handbook on the internet, but I'd say it's still a good idea to get it. I borrowed a copy from a friend of mine and read it several times. I found it to be very helpful.

First it tells you exactly what the USNA is, i guess just in case there is any confusion. There are several personal accounts from graduates about USNA and what it did for them. Then it tells how you should prepare academically, physically, and mentally, followed by everything you need to know about the application process. It also has several chapters on how to survive and succeed if you get accepted and ends with a chapter for parents. I have the second edition, but I'm assuming the third edition is basically the same.

I found it to be very helpful in making the decision to go to a service academy (I was kind on the fence for a while) as well as completing the application process.

i own a copy of the book, i got it two years ago. i have read it several times and every time i read it i find some new and helpful information.

in fact i have been reading it recently because i'm a plebe this summer.
i found it especially helpful preparing mentally.

also, it helped me so much during the nomination process. i feel i did a million times better with my nomination interviews because of the candidate book.

i think you should get it. it has helped me so much and i'm sure it will help you as well.

are you an appointee for the class of 2013?

well if that is true than now if the perfect time to get the candidate book I got it when i was a freshman and it really helps you prepare to get into the academy. In the end your own hard work is gonna get you in but the candidate book can help you decide where to focus that hard work. Even though I will be graduating from the academy the year you (hopefully) go in I still hope to see you in the fleet. Good Luck.

I'm also graduating from high school in 2013 and hopefully attending the USNA. I ordered a copy of the book and biggest thing i learned was tips on the interview w/your nom source. It's a really helpful book and i'm sure that it will help you, if not just show you what the different steps you need to get there.

P.S: What state are you from?
