Naval Academy LOA?

I'd reckon there aren't many completed. I was physically qualified less than four business days after my CFA scores were submitted. Seems a safe assumption, since everyone else seems to have been notified a bit later. Of course, maybe they were just really on the ball because a whole bunch of people were submitting everything. Maybe the Naval Academy has a secret cult that worships me. All of those are pretty awesome choices, in my professional opinion.

JettAirliner- How did you determine you are Physically Qualified? I thought they only notified you if you failed the CFA? My son completed his CFA Aug 10th and based off the CFA averages which he exceeded and the fact that he played 3 sports, I am pretty confident he would be Physically qualified but he was not notified of this... nor did he think he would be unless he failed the CFA...?

They now (I think it's new...) notify candidates' BGO. He almost certainly is qualified, I did terribly. But, if his BGO does not want to tell him, you can both rest safe in the whole "no news is good news" thing. Almost a month, no letter saying he's failed, good to go.

Hey everybody,

Just out of curiosity, has anyone gotten any sort of letter from the admissions board?? I would believe that no one has received anything significant because the first board meeting is Sep 1st. If anyone has received anything let us know :))

Have a great day!!

Thanks for the clarification. He had his BGO interview Saturday and he told him he looked very competitive so maybe that was his way of telling him all is good. He completed medicals and both Dr's said he looked good to go- just waiting for the final qualified to show up on the website. All else is submitted...Thus the waiting begins. Gonna be a long fall and winter!!

Good luck to you JettAirliner!!

I am attending NorthWestern Prep (free agent), so since the board reviews my application in Jan. for the first time, does this mean that I would just get a normal notification in case of an appointment or do they still send out LOA's at that time? Thanks!!

We've seen a few LOAs distributed at that late date. Why are you worrying about that? Majoring in the minors. How many angels can dance on the head of a needle? How many camels can go thru its "eye?"

But, if his BGO does not want to tell him

There should be no reason that your BGO won't tell you whether you passed the CFA. We are certainly permitted to share that info with candidates.

What the BGO does NOT know is your score -- how well you did.

What might an applicant to USNA class of 2016 with a completed application expect from the first admissions board? LOA, decline, admit, conformation of receipt or nothing.

We should expect nothing, as I gather it. We can hope for an LOA, but definitely shouldn't be holding our breath.

along that line of questions... if a candidate has a completed application submitted in Aug with a nom (pres) and is 3Q, and hears nothing- can they assume they will not be selected as one of the 100 pres noms? I know presidential are not competitive and DS is applying for all other types of noms he is eligible for but just am curious if the admissions board typically gives out the 100 presidential appointments early in the process.

Best to call and ask. Call the admissions office, they'll redirect to a candidate's regional representative, this person is probably the most knowledgeable about the candidate with regards to all things concerning admissions and, assumably, nominations.

I'm not sure what OP means, but 12,195 applicants initiated the process and 350 were 100% completed by August 15. I have about four friends from NASS that already have presidential nominations and are 100% completed with their app (not including medical).

Interesting facts about number of apps completed. From where did you get that info? Thanks in advance! (And what the heck does "OP" mean?)

Yes to all the above. Prior to the board, administratively the WPMs on each record are tallied. Therefore the CGO has a feel for final ranking. Only the truly exceptional will normally go before these early boards. There are many who submitted this past summer who will not go before the board until Jan-Feb. Those who don't qualify will normally be one of the last few boards. Similiarly for the marginals. The board doesn't know where the cutoff is or if a record needs to be evaluated more closely because that individual is a MOCs principal nominee, so these are also retained until the end. One thing you will not see early on is rejections. Out of hundreds, the few I have seen either had glaring negative comments, they lied to the CGO/BGO, or something along those lines.

Do not assume anything. Mostly, the only Presidentials who will be offered appointments early on are the truly exceptional, those who, had they not had a nomination, would probably have received an LOA.

Please please don't bother CGO with superfulous questions along these lines. The catalog states that most will hear by April 15. All you early submitters stand by for a long wait where all you can do is twiddle your thumbs.

CGO informed me that the first regular board would meet in early September.

LOAs overall, according to my RD, have decreased the past few years. The candidate pool is becoming more competitive each year. If someone bails out, there is another almost as qualified who really wants to be there to take his place. My assumption is that with the increase in the highly qualified pool and the emphasis on minorities, that a greater percentage of these LOAs will go to those truly exceptional minorities.

There is a rumor that the first board meeting was yesterday!!! Is that true???

Thanks!

DS BGO emailed yesterday and said the board has met and already given out some LOA's to highly qualified candidates. I posted yesterday on here to see if anyone could confirm this but no replies.... so again-throwing it out there... anyone?

I've heard nothing Crair70. I would imagine only the really really highly qualified candidates hear anything this early.

Hi there!!!

Can anyone confirm that the board has already met?? Has anyone other than crair70 heard anything along those lines?
