My son recently received an offer for a sponsored alumni foundation program. He was told that he would not be out of the running for the actual appointment process, although this was a way for him to attend one of the approved foundation sponsored prep school(s) and not have to go through the process again next year.

He is stoked about being able to get in for the convening class of 2019, although he is unsure as to the legitimacy of his chances of actually getting in to the class of 2019?

Does anyone have any experience with this way in to USNA?

Foundation sponsored candidates are definitely legitimate and are pretty much guaranteed an appointment for the following year's class as long as they make really good grades in their foundation prep program and receive a nomination and don't get into any serious trouble (including honor code violations). Your DS has reason to be happy. My DS was not a foundation sponsored prep but had many friends at Greystone Prep, who were foundation students.

Thank you

My son has chosen Greystone Preparatory school as well. He received his folder and letter this evening stating exactly what you said.

Thanks again,

whiz kid 98, My DD will be there for this coming year as well. She is not a foundation sponsored candidate, but will attend as a free agent. Here we go again!

Been reading forums for a couple of months-- just joined in hopes of connecting with others in similar boat as our DS. Not quite comfortable posting yet- CAmom2015 - would you mind private messaging me (hoping I'll be able to figure out how that works!) so I can ask you a few things about Greystone and being "free agent" there? We're looking at it for DS for this coming year. Whizkid98 - if you have any thoughts/impressions to share-- I'd love to get a PM from you, too-- if you don't mind!

Thanks, CAmom2015! Funny-- it won't let me respond to your PM since I haven't had 5 posts yet! Just wanted see what time would work for you.

It's official - Greystone 2014-15

I know this thread is a few years old, but I thought it apropos for our announcement that DS was informed today that he is officially admitted to Greystone Prep as a USNA Foundation sponsored student. Yay!

We're extremely happy for him - although this isn't the path we expected, this feels like the right path for now. He is focused on earning an appointment to USNA.

Thanks to CAmom2015 for a ton of time on the phone with me last week which reassured me that Greystone was the right environment for DS

We're all looking forward to the experience. If there are any "Greystoners" parents out there who want to connect, please feel free.

Roebuck- we just heard today that our son got into Greystone as well. He will be a free agent. Isn't CAmom2015 wonderful?! Greystone needs to hire her as a parent rep! :) I'm new to forums and can't PM yet- but feel free to PM me. It would be great to get to know some of the other kids and parents headed to TX this August.

Goodiscoming - sent you a PM - reply when you can.
Thanks - looking forward to connecting with you and family.

Ugh- need two more posts to be able to respond/send PM. So, sorry to do this... But this will be number 4 and...
