Hey everyone, I had a quick question about the Navy SEAL's. After reading about LT Michael Murphy's heroism in Afghanistan earlier in the decade, I really started looking into becoming a Navy SEAL because I want to serve with some of the best, bravest and noblest men and leaders in the world. I read in his biography that he was trained and prepared at King's Point and that was a major influence in my decision to attend the academy. I talked to the members of the Naval Sciences table at the open house and they told me it was a separate entity from the school and that it was run by an ex-SEAL who interacted with the students at King's Point. What I was wondering is how to get involved in this training and if there is anyone currently in training to become a SEAL through the guidance affiliated with KP?

    Thanks guys!

Captain Bisset runs the training. We have a group of guys who participate once a month with the RDAC program. Basically they do the PST and then they have a swim clinic and a little training session. There are also several other training sessions you can do with RDAC program with different people who help out Captain Bisset. If you can get up to his standards, then he will help you apply for the BUD/S slots junior and senior year with the ROTC kids. I did it plebe year but being B-split, I didn't have as much time to do it this past trimester I was there. I will get back into it once I get back from sea in November. If you have any questions feel free to message me. I hope this helps

Have you applied to the Naval Academy?

Never mind, I see that you are attending KP. Disregard the question.

Just wondering, how often are the SEAL training sessions? And what other trainings can you do along with the SEAL training sessions?

They have a SEAL PST once a month followed by a bbq in Connecticut. There are also occasional training sessions run by other leaders of the RDAC program when they are able to. There is also a training session with a former Marine Corps Corporal who holds several world records in pull ups. I'm not sure if they still do the training but we went a few times plebe year. These training sessions were from 2200 on Tuesday to 0200 on Wednesday morning. They are really intense sessions and he expects 120% or he wants you to leave. He knows what he is doing and he has helped many people in the RDAC program build up their PST scores through his training sessions.

So all in all we have to train ourselves and take care of our own PT and swimming except for this once a month thing?

Yes for the most part you have to train yourself. they have the swim clinics at the monthly PST but CAPT Bisset expects you to have the self discipline to build your scores up on your own as well. They help out but you also have to do your part.

Yes, everyone should read Lone Survivor and the book on Murphy. I found both these books riveting and inspirational. Love the Seal series on PBS too. And read "Growing Up Bin Laden". It is written by Bin's first wife and their 4th son. Riveting, informative. His wives are clueless about who is/was now. It's a must read. His son couldn't stand his dad and left...just in time...

We've seen the Seal Series twice now within the past 5 yrs. It is not on Milwaukee Public Television at this time. I'm sorry. But why not contact your regional or local PBS and see if it available for purchase. Check EBay or Amazon. Also, check your local library. They might have it....or even purchase it for their library collection! Good Luck!!
