I am curious if anyone has any opinion on whether USNA will go to a policy similar to USAFA and wear NWUs several days a week? Or is this overall Department of the Navy policy?

Depends on the Supt and Dant. They get to make these calls. They did get rid of Winter Working Blues this year. That is the first change in a long time. Not to long ago Firsties wore khakis during the Academic Year to stand out as leaders. Next admin got rid of it. So they may decide to wear them Fridays or only on bad weather days, never, or every day of the week. Be surprised if they go to everyday, but might see once a week or on designated days.

So this is a decision made by the academy admin? Also, winter working blues would be the long sleeve ones, yes?

We do have Warrior Fridays: NWU Type I/III, MCCUU, flight suit, or coveralls as applicable to 1/C based on service assignment.

NWUs are now mandatory on snow days. Good call in my opinion, the boots are much safer on ice than dress shoes. Legitimate safety issue there.

As a daily uniform? Probably not. We have to dress pretty for the tourists.

As a daily uniform, we now wear summer working blues year round. However, on snowy days (such as the last two days), we will wear NWUs. Your next time to wear a different academic year uniform (as far as I know) is your first class year. It isn't necessarily NWUs (nuensis explains it well), but they are generally more comfortable than SWBs.

Yes Winter Working Blues were long sleeved with a tie. And yes, the Academy admin makes the call on uniforms, especially ones specific to USNA like WWBs and SWBs. These versions of the uniform are specific to USNA, not the fleet. I think the change is good as it correlates with khakis being a year round uniform and helps cut uniform costs. We didn't get to wear cammies on bad weather days, but we were authorized boots in our WWB. Stribling is a nightmare when there is ice! Nuensis, rumor is the Brigade has an aversion to the reefers these days. We loved ours! They were great for sleeping in class. What is up with not wanting to wear them?

    It's true.

I don't understand it either, but there is judgement when reefers are worn. Reefers are weakness.

Apologies for ignorance, but what is a reefer?

It's the traditional peacoat you see Mids wearing.
