Oh whatever will all of you Navy fans do when the Minutemen of UMass win the Battle of Amherst & Annapolis???

Think maybe they are called the Minutemen because that is how long they will last?

Well, after I blow my nose (bad cold), I'll most likely laugh at how wrong your prediction was.

I thought it was because they will only need a minute to take down those sailor boys.

The Minutemen will be a mere "flash in the pan." History lesson 101: What is the origin of "flash in the pan."

A dud... when the gunpowder went off but the bullet didn't fire....

won't be the problem tomorrow... we all know if it wasn't for the Minutemen we would all be singing "God Save the Queen".

I wish I was there to see at the start of the 2nd half the Navy QB pleading, "We have not yet begun to fight" as the Minutemen continue their massacre on the field.

Justa ... close. they did not shoot "bullets" in the days of muzzleloaders/flintlocks. They were roundballs. And they never went off.

The powder charge in the barrel failed to ignite even though the pan powder did. Usually 'cause 'twas wet or the touchhole was blocked.

And the result was often ... a "hang fire."

Those are ugly.

But back to the main issue ...

The "MINUTEMEN" ... I think it has something to do with staying power?

Crow! Get your nice hot crow here! Crow!

:thumb:

I will admit it was a nail-biter, though. How many times did Navy fumble? Sheesh!

Ugly game. Closer than the score would indicate. Playing two option quarterbacks probably exponentially increases the fumble opportunities. A win non the less.

Whistle: Good job on the History 101 test. I would submit however, that a round ball can be a bullet. Bullet comes from the French "boulette" meaning small ball.

Consider that USAFA just barely lost to #11 Tennessee in Knoxville. Consider what ND did to PSU. And Rutgers is now a force to be reckoned with. I fear it will be a long season -- or at least a couple of long games.

I'm afraid I know nothing of football. Can't even name the positions, so the whole "option" thing goes over my head. Embarassing, but true.

From this negat's viewpoint, though, Navy just didn't seem to have its timing right. Fumbles, guys in the wrong place, etc.

But like you said, a win is a win, and considering that I saw darn few of those in my day, it was a pleasure to watch. I just hope the Mids get whatever it is they need to address fixed quick. Make for less-stressful game-watching.

And Z ... YOU are correct, as usual. We tend to use bullet and cartridge interchangeably, and as you've noted, not correctly. Even if I did so in my mind.

That was fellow Alumni USNA69, not me.

He beat me to it.

I stand corrected ... again.

In my house, one (read WP) gits used to such.

But if one key to strong leadership is surrounding one's self with people smartern "one's self" ... well call me Admiral Zumwalt! And fall in. The line forms to the rear!:thumb:
