Navy?

The Air Force was formed after WWII from then until the first class graduated from the AFA in 1963, USNA and USMA grads often commissioned to the AF.
But yeah, Sec of the AF is a civilian position not a military position.

ok i definitely was completely wrong about what i said lol
i guess i thought that just because when you go to info sessions at civillian schools the job placement is all you hear about @ SAs you just sorta hear about the "bigees" like pres and secs of navy and stuff

one question though. are there services provided to grads to facilitate the transition from active duty to civilian employment?

OOO didnt know it was a civilian job, I am dumb though I shoulda figured that it was before the AF was created D:

Yes through the alumni/Foundation at USNA. I personally know of a company in the Atlanta area that specializes in placing former active duty - I am sure there are other such organizations throughout the states.

All military, when separating or retiring from the service, go through a transition seminar for briefings on veterans' benefits and transition to the civilian job market. Refresh on my earlier post on officer placement companies and, just for fun, go to the Naval Academy Alumni Association website, usna.com, and browse through their careers section. You will see they partner with other SA alumni groups to host Academy job fairs all around the country.

Like CAPT MJ said, there are many ways to chart a new professional life after the Navy. One is through the Service Academy Career Conference. Others include companies that specialize in JMO career placements. Don't worry, they will find you. The prominent ones always seem to get you on their mailing lists at about the five-year mark.

You can also go a different path. I networked with my alumni and past shipmates and ended up in GE.

BTW, I was not being critical in my thread reply. I just wanted to give you a different perspective.

Also BTW, James F. McGovern USNA '69 was Secretary of the Air Force 1988-1989.
