Hi guys I received my appointment in January and my parents are looking into hotels for Parents Weekend. Any suggestions that are clean, close to the academy, and not to expensive would be appreciated :) The Academy Hotel is already full so that will not work. Thanks!

There are several hotels listed in the Instructions to Appointees booklet, all of which are right outside the Academy.

I saw those. but I was wondering if any one had any suggestions based on previous stays or recommendations.

Hi Falcons,

We found that our 2017 DS was pretty wiped from BMT etc and really wanted some "down time" more than anything.

Since they can't go out anywhere in public view without a uniform on, we went for a suite-type room. That allowed space to unwind, play a video game (we brought), have a chill meal, watch TV, etc without feeling so cooped up in a small box.

The other choice was adjoining rooms, but many of the hotels on that particular weekend will NOT in fact guarantee the two rooms are actually adjoining, to spite what you may be told when you first book.

We wound up at the Embassy Suites in Colorado Springs and it really worked out!

Great atrium where they host decent breakfast (free) everyday and mini-cocktail and snack hour (free) every evening. Rooms/suites were just big enough and the little kitchenette area and table was perfect for making light meals or eating pizza for those times you don't want to put on a uniform and go out. We are booked there again to visit our 2018 DD this year!

Hope this helps and enjoy the visit!

PS: If you've gotten an acceptance, don't be afraid to book now. I believe it is the busiest weekend of the year in that area and the hotels fill crazy fast.

Rates are always jacked for PW and best places are booked a year in advance. Will be difficult to find something now close to the academy, clean, and reasonably priced. Have stayed at Days Inn on Razorback and Super 8 on N. Academy. Far from spectacular but will suffice. Also on most travel search engines like Orbitz and Expedia, instead of listing the location you are searching for as "Colorado Springs", type in "U.S. Air Force Academy Colorado" and then you can filter distance from there instead of filtering by distance from center of Colorado Springs.

You might look at renting a home instead of just a motel room. The area has many rentals. It is nice to be able to relax and unwind outside of a hotel. We did the hotel thing the first year our daughter was there and after that we rented a home. Rates are comparable as if you were renting two rooms at a motel. Plus you have the freedom to cook as many meals as you want. It can save on the budget since you won't be eating out all the time. My daughter was much happier in the house than the motel. We have rented the house every year and now have it for graduation too!

We stayed closer to downtown CO Springs, in the Quality/Comfort Inn on Bijou St. On one side, every room is a 2 room, 2 BATHROOM!!!! suite, and the other side is regular hotel rooms. Pool, free hot breakfast... They always treated us well and we stayed there several times.

It was maybe a 15 minute drive from the South Gate.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn twice and really liked it - 1307 Republic Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80921

The Howard Johnson right across from the South Gate is inexpensive and decent. Not the Taj Mahal but it works. If you want a nicer place with a kitchen try the Staybridge Suites at Woodmen and Hwy 25.
