Need some BUMED Waiver help

My son cleared all of the hurdles and received a conditional acceptance based on the outcome of a DoDMERB/BUMED waiver review.
Background: My son is a runner and had some foot pain. We had two orthopedists look at him and we had surgery to fix his foot over a year ago. He recovered quickly and today is a stronger runner than before. BUT...BUMED reviewed his file and Disapproved it!
So how can we appeal this? He's physically strong today, and wants to run for USMMA. So how or whom can we contact to appeal? His file did go all the way up to the Surgeon General for review, but no one actually, physically "saw" him for this specific issue. Is it possible to have him looked at by a Navy doc and get that consult used to overturn the waiver?
How can we overcome this? Any help is greatly appreciated!
thanks

Have you spoken to Larry Mullen at DoDMERB he seems to know everything there is to know about waivers? :thumb:

Yes, I've been in contact with Mr. Mullen and he informed me that the review was appealed and went up the chain, but....I don't have the reason why the denial? This was a one time repair over one year ago...and the proof is that he's a strong runner. Once BUMED makes a decision can it be re-visited? My thought was going to a Navy doc, having him examined and send the results to DoDMERB? But will they accept it if the appeal review was already rendered? Point is, he's in great physical shape now. So how can I get them to see the light? Anyone know a Navy doc, preferably and ortho, in the Chicago area?

Unfortunately, I'm not so sure that visiting a Navy Orthopedic Surgeon is going to solve your problems. DODMERB physicals are performed outside of the military health care system, so many of your military physicians have never seen one of these physicals.

The best person to contact (beside Larry Mullen) is KP2001. He is a graduate of Kings Point, a Navy Flight Surgeon and a Moderator on this forum. Just be aware that the answer he may tell you is not the one you want to hear.

Best of luck.

Thanks for the response. I did send a note to KP2001 as well to get his input.
Thanks again.

I also strongly suggest you call the KP Admissions Office. They were very helpful for us when we were navigating the waiver process with DD.

It is true that you learn something new everyday. I did not know that Larry Mullen was a KP grad or KP2001..He is the best :)
