this is my DS first time around on this disqualification carosale (mine too) and we are wondering if he is academically and phyiscally qualified with a nomination and the NA submits for a wavier review, how long do they give the candidate to submit any additional documentation to support the wavier (he already turned in documents at his initial exam) before the wavier authority reviews file and makes a decision....or do the wavier authority go with what is in DS file already...this is making us nervous because he wants to make sure that the latest and updated information in his in file but he doesn't want to act to fast and submit information that may not be needed. Any helpful sugguestions.

I assume "NA" means USNA; I can only speak to that source.

It's my understanding that USNA Admissions generally does not request a waiver until they decide there is a high likelihood they will offer the candidate an appointment. It's simply a matter of resources. For most candidates, those decisions are made in January and February. Thus, you should have plenty of time. Also, they are likely to wait until you have turned in all requested documents or indicated such documents aren't available before making a decision -- obviously, as the clock ticks down into April, etc., timing becomes more of an issue. But, I have seen cases where waivers have come through (or been denied) very late in the process -- usually due to resolution (or lack thereof) of an injury/surgery, etc.

It's also my understanding that USNA makes the waiver decision. DODMERB makes the initial DQ and then the individual accession source (in this case USNA) decides whether to waive that condition. The primary decision is that of Medical but the Superintendent may also play a role -- i.e. Medical says they will waive and the Supe decides whether to go forward which may include a decision regarding how many candidates with a certain (or different) conditions will be offered waivers.

The above is general info -- I'm sure there are folks who have had slightly different experiences. If I've stated anything incorrectly, someone please correct me.

A word of advice regarding the paperwork you submitted at the original exam. My DD completed her DODMERB physical earlier this month and also submitted paperwork at this exam. Well, wouldn't you know it, DODMERB received and reviewed the exam and then kicked out a R100 code, remedial, to submit the same paperwork that I submitted at the initial exam. I called DODMERB and they advised me that they did not receive that paperwork. I scanned and emailed the paperwork immediately (while still on the phone with them) and my DD's status was changed to "qualified" later that same day. (Kudos to DODMERB for excellent customer service and an immediate response). So, I'd suggest calling DODMERB to ensure they have the paperwork you provided at the initial exam. Do not assume that they have it. Good Luck.

usna1985...yes I meant US Naval Academy...I typed that in the wee hours the other morning and my auto correct is stupid! I meant no disrespect as I am a Navy wife...it just came out that way.

Juvat...thanks for he advice. I did call DoDMerb yesterday and that said that they did receive the paperwork from the doctor from the original exam. So we will see. Life is moving on for us as school is about to begin as thus the waterpolo season....fun fun fun!
