It is morning here on Ford Island, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and I am looking out my daughter's front window at the bay which is just past the swaying palm trees in her front yard. I have been given a gift of a weeklong visit to help her out before the baby arrives (her husband is away on a short term mission, but will be back for the baby's arrival!) - and I can't believe this is really real!!!

Just down the little road out in front of their place is the Navy Lodge and a beautiful park with many more swaying palm trees waiting for the rain-sun-mist-shine 85 degree day to get underway! My USMC Lt. (soon to be Captain) DD left for work about an hour ago - and I will have dinner ready for her and my granddaughter-to-be (my first grandchild!) when she gets back home this evening.

It was eight years and about 3 weeks ago that we watched as she, a sweet-tough-dedicated 18 year old girl, marched off into her military future on I-Day in front of Bancroft Hall at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis - and never, ever in a million years would I have imagined THIS back then...AMAZING AND BEAUTIFUL LIFE IS...ABSOLUTELY WITHOUT A DOUBT AMAZING AND BEAUTIFUL!!! As a parent, I am humbled and in awe of these fine, fine young people serving and protecting all of us!!!

What a great opportunity for you! It would be a treat to just visit, but you get to welcome a grandchild!

Once someone told me that I was living vicariously through my sons... I guess I do! Son #2 has been to 42 different countries since I-Day. I've been to 2. Both sons have been to, and lived in great places.

I have never been to Hawaii either, but my SWO son may be stationed there someday... if he is, get my room ready!

Congratulations, and savor every minute!
