New 2nd Honor Code at Citadel

Just curious... do you think I was school bashing??? Not trying to make it personal... I can handle it I asked.
I have to say you have not been school-bashing, Clueless parent. You asked a valid question and got a long and one-sided post in response. I'm prone to being one-sided myself...;)
In the end, and all differences aside--this is entirely about helping young men and women make the best choice for their future.

...well I guess if I were a VMI alumnus who just lost their coach - when he recognized a better deal living in sunny Charleston - and VMI can look forward to nothing but losses against El Cid - for eternity - well so be it my friend. Regards
As previously said, this forum is about helping young men and women make the best choices--In that vein, (and after looking at this weekends college sports scores) I'd advise future students and/or cadets against making any college decisions based upon, or boastful proclamations about, their college teams. College sports teams--and their records--come and go... Regards

A friend forwarded this new internet commercial for the Citadel: thought it was pretty interesting and worth sharing...

Oh I agree.... The Citadel is heading in the direction of an A&M or VT. And they are full steam ahead with there intentions, obviously. I have some strong opinions about the transition but not being an Alum I have no stake. To me it seems like the end of a tradition on the horizon... so sad, but I am sure they (Board of Visitors) have evaluated the situation. Most Cadets I know are aware of the change and are not happy with what they see/ are hearing (just my limited knowledge of exposure from military oriented Cadets).
Do I think it will make the school a lesser school, for lack of better word, no. Do I think it will make it a different school, absolutely. Will it matter, well to those deep tradition steeped I think so, for those coming on that were not a part of that tradition, I think in the long run no. The change is coming a little at the time.... seen it ....IMHO.
As I said above someone (board) in the chain of command has chosen this route. I have my ideas why and I choose not to air them , at least at the moment. And folks this is not a bashing of The Citadel, an awesome school-- just a changing school. Maybe change is necessary to compete amongst the rising Universities of today?

Although they don't make it clear, I'm assuming some of these classes will be at remote locations or even online.

On a side note to the post above:
By sophomore year DS was frustrated with the changing system around him. The frustration grew during junior year and by the end of the year leveled. By Senior year DS stated, "things change......" Today's Army officers seem to have to adapt with a quickly morphing Army and changing world around them. In the last four years have I seen the maturing of an Army officer? I like to think so.

In closing I will say, DS had multiple school offers and would have given a stiff running for an appointment. I asked him a short time before graduation, If you knew what you know now would you choose "The Citadel". His comment was without hesitation, "Absolutely!" So if he is happy with the decision, got a good education, and is prepared to serve, that is all that matters....
