The new budget passed last week will ground two squadrons of C-17s. The 10th Airlift Squadron at McChord and the 17th Airlift Squadron at Charleston will be deactivated. The planes will be put into inactive spare status and the crews will be absorbed into different units over time.

President's budget grounds eight C-17s at Joint Base Charleston

JBLM C-17 squadron will be inactivated in 2016

Also, the Air Force is dropping the crew requirements from 2.5 crews per airframe to 2.0 crews. By my calculations, this means about 280 less C-17 pilots needed compared to what we have right now. Yet, in watching the UPT drops they are still sending a lot of pilots to C-17s.

    Interesting budget times.

So how many C 17s do we need?

I rather have less C 17s or name your own favorite military weapons system than a bankrupt government.

Why not cut military retiree benefits, to save those two C 17 squadrons. I think raising Triacare copay by $5 might do the trick.

Some folks say cut my favorite thing last, unfortunately, I see any government cut like a circle. There is no starting point.

It's easy to cut the military cause the current military doesn't have enough voters to matter. Its all about that political base.
