I am a candidate for both USAFA and USNA, but USAFA is my dream school. I've read these forums a lot and finally decided that I should register and get more involved. I have found it extremely helpful and hopefully it will come in handy for the months to come. I have a nomination interview this upcoming Monday. Any advise would be greatly appreciated! Looking forward to getting to know some other members! :)

There are all kinds of older threads (some rather recent) with plenty of nomination interview advice. I suggest you search for them and read through them.

I have read many of the older posts on interviews and what to expect. I have found that many of them probably won't apply to Montana's process. Montana has only one office that incorporates an interview into their selection process. I know that the nomination panel consists of only 5 members, four SA graduates and one former senate staff member.

As far as my appearance for the interview I was going to wear a dress suit and have professional, but minimal makeup. I was also planning on having my hair up in a sock bun within regulations. I think I have covered most things. Did I miss anything?

My ALO suggested that I research the AF and to look into some aircrafts. I have done that, but I am also applying to USNA, but I'm not sure if there is anything specific that I should know about the Navy...

Well, it might help to know something about the various jobs available in the Navy and perhaps be somewhat familiar with the names of different classes of ships. I don't think it's necessary to study silhouettes. Knowing something about Academy life might be helpful. I expect you already have all that under control.

Aside from that I think the interview process is really more about being familiar with yourself.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! I have kept in regular contact with a couple cadets at USAFA, and I know that life at USNA and life at USAFA are pretty similar.

The military is a professional organization so looking and sounding mature and professional goes a long way.

As for specific service info, I would think more about why you want to join the military overall, and what specific areas in the various branches interest you most and why.

I wouldn't think they would expect you to be a military genius...but they would expect you to have some kind of motivation for joining a specific branch.

I just had my interview and I think it went well. Going into the interview I knew why I want to join the military (service, heritage, being with people as driven to success as I am, education, etc.). I was, however, not prepared for why I didn't want to attend west point or merchant marine. Unfortunately, it seemed that the questions I was asked focussed more on the latter. Overall I feel that I represented myself, my family, and my community well. I am honored to have this opportunity to even be considered for a service academy. :)

Thank you Clara! This site has been very helpful and I have enjoyed being a part of this forum. I have found it to be full of very supportive and knowledgeable people. :) The only problem I have noticed is that my interest in nominations, appointments, statuses of those I may have the privilege of calling my classmates, etc., has turned into an obsession, I can't get enough of it! ;)

I think we have all had our obsession about these forums, I can relate :) I have found these people to be very intuitive and agreeable. I am looking forward to learning more as I begin my admission process.
