Hello Forum, I am the father of a prospective candidate to the class of 2018.
My son was just nominated by our congressman, and I’m trying to determine what I/we should do next. He has an existing Candidate File that we started in his Junior year, but it has “recently been closed by Admissions for this year.” That happened in August, but since so much has changed since then,
not the least of which is the congressional nomination. Will West Point reopen that existing file in light of the info they’ll get from our congressman? Or do we start a new one? Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Do you know why his candidate file was closed? Was it closed recently or in August? Has he contacted USMA since August? That seems awfully early. Were his ACT/SAT scores above the minimums? Did he have everything else completed? (CFA, SOEs, CAR, essay, etc)

The USMA application deadline is 28 FEB. I would call Admissions ASAP to ask these questions.
