New round of TWE?

Sorry to hear about those who got a TWE. Are those who did the ones who were still CPR after last friday?

Just got my TWE email, so that's the end of the line here.

I don't think that I got the NROTC Marine Option scholarship either, but I'm still planning on doing NROTC, just without the scholarship. Two questions: 1. Does anybody know how to join NROTC without actually getting the scholarship? 2. Is there a NROTC unit that's better between Villanova or PITT?

Thanks for all of the help and good luck to those who made it.
To become a College Programmer ("walk-on") at your Plan B school, make contact with the unit ASAP. They are already taking applications and forming up their units as we speak. Each unit has a limit on how many MIDN they can take (scholarship + non-scholarship), so don't wait. They typically have many forms you need to fill out, which takes time.

Also, yes, you can and should apply for a scholarship as soon as you join the unit. Then kick butt in classes and unit performance so you impress them enough to get one. Each unit typically has scholarships available to award at their discretion so start training hard now so you ate in shape and ready to make a strong first impression. Good luck!

My DS's TWE came in this morning, also, and unfortunately while he's in school. It must be very hard to receive this life-changing news in or between classes, around your classmates....or even to arrive at school with the news so fresh. It would be a lot more respectful to candidates (that have aspired to the heights of USNA and have gone through an incredibly arduous process) if Admissions would follow the lead of other highly respected institutions and send notices late in the day!
DS has some awesome other Plan B, C, and D options...but this news so late in the game is also an incredible disappointment nonetheless. Thanks to all the contributors for the support this forum provides, and good luck to everyone!
I agree, and I can empathize. My DD received hers while sitting in class with the only other USNA applicant/appointee from her school. Hard to keep it together anyway, even harder when sitting next to someone who is on the other side of the fence. However, that said... her friends and classmates were tremendous. And, I believe it was a tough but valuable lesson. But my heart hurt for her. I am so sorry for your DS's TWE, but now that we are 2 weeks beyond I can honestly say that once these kids wrap their heads around their other Plan A's, they will commit whole heartedly and you will see that sense of satisfaction, acceptance, and excitement for the next four year. Congrats to him on a job well done... it was a rough road. I want to wish him the very best as he continues to work towards becoming an officer.

My DS received TWE a couple of weeks ago, but received acceptance news from VT as well a couple days later. The bad news overshadowed the good news, still. Rejections are harder when you are 17. Best wishes to your DD.

Most young people are amazingly resilient. This biggest issue about OUR candidates is that the majority of them have NEVER failed at anything. The TWE may be shocking to them, but what hurts them actually makes them stronger.

My DS received his TWE a year ago and was like everyone else, crushed. Now he is thriving at his Plan B (it was actually plan c) school and loving it. I asked him if he wanted to reapply, and he said no, because it would put him one year behind his self-imposed timeline of becoming a military officer.

These young men and women are superstars and will do great whether they reapply to USNA or go on to Plan B.

Thank you so much. DD is happily moving forward with her "other Plan A". She will NROTC assigned to the Notre Dame brigade going to my alma mater, Saint Mary's College. She found out that she will be among the first class to pursue a physics with applied mathematics major, and has already found and met her roomates.... one of whom is Marine option ROTC and science major and the other is also a science major. She knows that she has found her "home", as much as she would have loved the privilege of USNA. She is not ruling out reapplying, but happily pursuing her other Plan A right now. CONGRATS to your DS on his acceptance at VT! I hope all is well with him and that he is moving forward as only these kids can do... with their heads held high! Take care- :)

Yes, all of these young people will continue to succeed in life.

Woke up and saw the TWE in my email. Incredible experience and I'm glad to say I still have other options. With that being said, looks like I will probably go to USMA. Go Army, Beat Navy :)

My DS is awaiting news from USAFA and USMA. Thanks!

You are very fortunate to have the USMA opportunity. Congratulations!
I hope you cross paths with my DS someday as fellow Army officers!

I just got one too. That's too bad. I'm almost happy that I don't have to make the decision between USAFA and USNA. There's always a silver lining.
Captain Jim Lovell got turned down from USNA his first time, so everyone with a TWE is on their was to becoming an astronaut!

So very true! We got the twe last year and it did sting. But something you can only say a year later: in retrospect, it was a blessing! DD got to experience a fantastic year in college--she made new friends, had awesome professors, excelled and got to experience a non-plebe year toward her goal. Good luck to all-the sting will pass!

Portal just updated to Turned down. Still have USMMA though and I have a great plan B!
We visited Usmma last year. I loved it, but she ended up going elsewhere. She had been in crew and the crew coach gave us a tour of the crew facilities at usmma. He is an awesome guy. He coached an Olympic team one year and is all about crew, trying to build the program (at least then) so if you are interested in crew you should really like it there!

Yeah I did the same thing this year. The coach was very nice and was very informative. If USMMA does not work out I'll be rowing for SUNY Maritime but USMMA is definitely the preferred school.

Best of luck to you! Enjoy rowing....let us know how that goes, and where!
