Hi guys I just got this letter from my Liaison Officer, is this a very good thing?

The Falcon Visitation Experience is an opportunity for high school seniors and recent graduates to visit the U.S. Air Force Academy and experience cadet life. The program seeks students who would contribute to the diverse community at USAFA through work background, cultural/language background, overcoming adversity, socioeconomic status, etc. All student expenses are covered. The next Experience is scheduled for early November, and is approximately 5 days long.

Requirements:

If you are interested, I need the following information from you ASAP:
1. Current GPA

3. Academics - Please select type of class (Standard, Honors, AP or IB) and then either input the grade you received in the class or input "currently enrolled" if you are currently taking the class. If not taken, please input "Have not taken class."

My DD received the same invitation but was turned down because she went to summer seminar. If you have not been to visit the Academy yet, it's a good deal as the USAFA is footing the bill. It just may cement your desire to finish your application and attend if you are offered an appointment. Good luck.

The Diversity Visitation Program is a great opportunity! I had a good time when I came out during my senior year of high school. It basically cemented my decision to attend the Academy if I got accepted. You get to see a lot of the Academy and Cadet life unlike Intercollegiate Athlete visits and Summer Seminar. Most of the people who came on the DVP trip with me were offered direct appointments and a few were offered Prep School Slots.

Hey man congrats! If you read a bit further down on the email it mentions they only select about 90 applicants out of the entire nation so you could say it is a good thing that they offered it to you.

Why would it NOT be a good thing? If you have not gone before, GO! It may make up your mind, one way, or the other.

Are you talking about me being one of those 90 people or do I have to apply to become one of those 90 people

You are one of the 90. I said applicants because USAFA only selects from its pool of applicants. Here's how they worded it in my email since my offer was for the October 14 session:
"...Each year the Admissions Office selects approximately 90 competitive
applicants who meet the Air Force's definition of diversity to attend the
Falcon Visitation Experience..."
So since they offered it to you, I want to say it is now a guarantee unless you were like me and put yes for the have you ever visited the academy question. Don't quote me on that though lol and definitely take the opportunity because the USAFA is an amazing place. If you are like me, It will change your attitude about the long application process and helps give you an advantage in interviews for congressional nominations.

yellow, have you been there before, either officially or unofficially?

Do they want to know in the 6th question just the specific categories in which I am especially diverse or just all of them in general?

Your email is worded a lot different from mine... Maybe you do have to apply. But I would go through each one that applies to me and write about it. Eg
Ethnicity- I am a (insert more about your ethnic background
Hardship- I have gone through (insert more about your experiences)
It'd be safe to Treat this like the application. I'm not sure of how the FVE selection is done, but since you got yours from your ALO, I'd assume it isn't quite set in stone yet. Of course I'm just another applicant so the best thing you could do is call up your ALO or region admissions counselor.

Yellow (and everyone else too): just remember that "diversity" doesn't mean the same thing, necessarily, to USAFA as it does to State U.
