Did you see the M/N get to kiss Jenny McCarthy on New Year's Rockin Eve?:shake: He said his name was Ben Moore

We have our DS and another 1st Classmen staying with us here on the West Coast. Last night, before going out on the town for New Years they both remarked that they could not understand the desire of some of their fellow classmates to return early to KP and go out into NY City. I guess they just found out why that was a good idea! :thumb:

Here's a link to a youtube video of the "young lad" attaining legend status. This was one time when it certainly wasn't an issue that a "civilian" didn't understand the difference between a "service academy" and a "military academy" or a "Merchant Marine" and a "REAL Marine" - LOL...

Good on ya matey!

Mistaken ID?

gcaptain forum says the cadet was from Fort Schuyler (SUNY), not KP.

Can anyone confirm?

Glad he was an engineer. That much we do know.

He is KP, SUNY has different devices for their combination covers.

Yesterday started slow (but oh, boy did THAT change), so I did a bit of research and found that the Ft. Scupper uniforms (and hat badges) look nothing like the one in the video. Also, I am not sure if the engineers have propellers on their shoulder boards, either.

yes, he goes to the USMMA

oh my goodness why is anyone questioning this? He is a KP mid and he is in Band Co.

As with the poster who brought it up, maybe we should be asking why and how the discussion got started on gCaptain...

Well excuuuuuuse me...

It was an innocent question that's been answered--the shoulder boards and the kids that know him--thank you.

You're welcome to take a look yourself. I have zero connection with gcaptain. In my opinion they aggregate some decent maritime reporting and I look at it from time to time, period. On a rare occasion I'll slum it over to their forum, like i did this time.

I didn't start or participate in the discussion, I just read it somewhere there. I'll even go back and attempt to set the record straight there, if i find the time, OK, Chief? I've never, ever posted there under this or any name.

As to what I'm guessing(?) you're alluding to re: gcaptain, I have no dog in that, or any fight there.

Another innocent question, is it advisable to refrain from even the mention of gcaptain on this board?

Privateer:

You misunderstood my point was it started on and got brought over here from the gCaptain forum vice the actual site and as such wasn't likely to have been vetted in any way before it was posted.

As for your second question, my personal view and we all have them and know what they are worth - is yes, there is plenty of good maritime industry information almagamated and posted on gCaptain that is worth mentioning and bringing over here. I would say on a personal level, except those posts and op-ed pieces with regard to the USMMA or the editor's alma mater USNA when they tend to put lots of spin on an alleged scandel...

This post on their forum was harmless, my point is it was on the forum who knows why the poster asked their question, it's the forum and a general user discussion.

Didn't mean to offend.
