Has anyone heard anything from Senators Schumer and Gillibrand (either to schedule interviews or to give instructions as to what will happen with the deadlines due to the shutdown)? DS e-mailed everything to Senator Gillibrand(deadline 10/15) before the shutdown, so we know it is there. However, the packet for Senator Schumer(deadline 11/1) is sitting at the PO because we sent it certified mail and it has to be signed for. I cannot even imagine how many thousands of pieces of mail are sitting there keeping it company....and how they will ever open all of that.

Looks like our letters will keep each other company.Same happened to us.Post office will send back after 15 days if not claimed. We are hoping the shutdown is over by then.I am sure they will extend under the circumstances if it goes on longer.Gillibrand is automatic thru email so your good there.GOOD LUCK!

Thanks - you too! We will have the paper trail of the slip left for them by the PO, so that will help prove dates anyhow.

You won't hear back from Senator Schumer unless your DS/DD is selected for an interview. Senator Gillibrand will either request an interview or send you a letter thanking you for applying (meaning you weren't selected). I wouldn't expect to hear back from either of them until January/February. Well at least last year I didn't.

OK, thanks Kev. I am thinking my DS has his best chance with our Congressman.

USNA requires that all NOM's be submitted by the end of January. Therefore, your MOC would obviously be in contact with you well ahead of that if you are in the running and need to be interviewed. Certainly, the MOC timeline would be well ahead of that to meet that deadline.

Follow the specific NOM application instructions provided by your MOC since they are not all exactly the same.

Thanks Time, one Senator's deadline is 10/15 (that one is in), the other Senator is 11/1 - that is the app that is sitting at a PO someplace in NYC. Congressman is also 11/1, and that one is in (with a letter that says DS will be contacted over the next few weeks for an interview time).

Who is your congressman?I thought no one was working due to shutdown. Thanks

Don't want to say exactly where, but we are west of mid-state. We were to send the packets to the local office, not DC or NYC. They signed for the packet on 10/1 (or 2 can't remember). We didn't expect to hear anything, but fortunately did! I would expect that all of the offices - Senators and Congressman alike have to keep some level of staffing, as they have "essential" things to attend to. With the amount of mail they get on a daily basis, I also wonder if there are interns or such that help open mail.
I know someone else also posted that their Congressman said that things would be business as usual.

Thanks-I wish they would send someone to the post office. You would think they would at least be taking care of that function.Im thinking of going to post office and retrieving myself and then taking to their offices.I probably better leave alone since everything is dated. At least your seeing some movement.Good luck with interview.

Have you called coordinator that handles these applications for representatives? Works for some applicants.

Sent using the Service Academy Forums® mobile app.

Oh my....just called Senator Schumer's local office to find out what will happen to our packets that are sitting in the NYC post office (his site said that mail already sent goes to an out of state facility first and could take up to 4 weeks, and if you have to submit timely material to call your local office). The secretary there is contacting the person who handles the nomination applications and she will get back to me later today. She said that there are probably many others in the same situation so they need to come up with a procedure, which she said may be a simple as extending the deadline.

OK, update....she called back and they did receive the application packet! She said some of it does not go through the screening process, so I am thinking if you sent your packet certified mail, that your app most likely made it there too. I just rtracked on USPS and it does say delivered so life is good!!!

I also received calls back from all MOC.Looks like there up and running.

Senator Gillibrand extended her deadline to 10/24 per her web site. According to a staffer in her office, she will put up a slate of 10 nomination candidates per academy. Interviews will be conducted across the state in various cities and be completed most likely before Thanksgiving. I believer her western office is in Buffalo. Hope that helps.

Have you heard anything from the moc's about interviews? who is your representative?

Nice DD of hutch! When will those be held? Do they hold them relatively locally. or do the kids have to travel for them?
