New York

Nice DD of hutch! When will those be held? Do they hold them relatively locally. or do the kids have to travel for them?

Thank you! Interviews are being held in his Manhattan office where the applications were sent. I do not know if that true for everyone they choose to interview, though.

Congressional interview for DS tomorrow! Suit is ready, still have to pick a shirt and tie and shine the shoes. I gave him all of the advice that all of you wonderful folks passed along....I don't know about him, but I am nervous as ever!!!! I will be pacing the parking lot while he goes in!

He'll do great!

Good luck-how much lead time did they give you for interview.did they give 2 week notice?

For our Congressman they sent a letter right after the application deadline (Nov1) saying that DS would be contacted over the next few weeks to set up a time, but they gave the date. He received the actual time about a week ago.

OK fellow NYers. DS thought his interview with our Congressman's committee went well. They had 2 rooms going at the same time (4 interviewers per room). There were 22 total applicants, but no idea if this is more or less than usual. He thought he heard someone say they would hear in mid-December.
They wanted to hear a little about him, what his most important EC was, what word would best describe him, what the word meant, and an example of how he was that word.
They asked what he would do if given an order to carry out something immoral, and said there was no right or wrong answer (he said he would try to figure out a way to do things differently).
They asked what he would do if he got to the service academy and decided a few years in that he did not want to be there.
They commented on a few things on his application - one lady said she had heard of our State Champion marching band, one said that being an Eagle Scout and going to Boy's State were great things.
That is all I can remember!

soccmomer - Thanks for the update. Any indication on breakdown of the 22 b/n the different academies? I would assume weighted toward USMA and USNA but just curious....

Best of luck to DS on getting a nom!!

JShaw - not sure of the break down. Actually AF came up a lot. Of the 7 kids over heard talking, most were AF, and only DS and a girl said USMA. We are near an AF base if that makes a difference - not sure if it does! One was at Valley Forge, one was a freshman at another university, one was home schooled, and the rest at least looked to be HS seniors when we saw them in the parking lot.

Hi-Does anyone know if Senator Gillabrand/Shumer use principle or competitive slates?

Thank you for the update! It is so helpful to know some of the questions that were asked. It sounds like things went well for your DS-that's fantastic! So they interviewed for all the academies at once? That's interesting. EC refers to extra-curricular, I'm guessing?

Best of luck to DS and please keep us informed!

I got a call today to interview with Gillibrand in December. Would it be too late to update my information for Schumer in hopes of getting an interview as well?

We call ourselves upstate... but in reality we're very downstate, just not the city!

What part of NY is everyone from? We are Western NY- which most WNY'ers will tell you is much different than Upstate or Downstate!

We are Central NY or Syracuse area. Our local moc has not finished review of applications yet, but interviews will be first weekend in Dec I'm told. As of two days ago, Gillibrand's office said they hadn't finished review yet either. They said they had 350 applications and would do 120 interviews for a slate of 10 noms. Not sure about Schumer, but have to believe the same kids would apply to both. Looks like Keg is one of the first. Great news for her.

Upstate is also known for something many parents of candidates rely on during this process....WINE!:shake:

Good to know, thanks! Does she separate that 120 into different academies? I read somewhere that Sen Schumer interviews a certain number per academy (candidates can choose only one)and then picks a slate of 10 for each. I can't remember if was 25 interviews per academy for a total of 100, or if it was 100 per. It think it's only 25 each, but I can't find where I read it. My DD got the invite from Schumer, but we haven't heard anything from Gillibrand yet.
