New York

Nothing from Schumer, although I know he was interviewing right up until Dec 18. I've heard, on this board, that NY is a state where the MOC try not to overlap -- meaning, if you get a nomination from one of the MOC's, you won't get another, to spread the wealth. Is there any truth to this?

Not So

DD received nominations from both US Senators as well as our Congressman.

The woman who interviewed me in Schumer's office told me to call her if I received another nomination. So yes, I'm assuming they do try to "spread the wealth."

Why?

Why would you want to do that? The more nominations you have, the better your chances are. It's like a lottery ticket; you only need one, but 2-3 are better. Also, Senators nominations come out on 01/31. Therefore, you must have already received your Congressman's nomination in order to make your notifications to both US Senators panels. Since all the nomination panels have access to each other, they can call each other if they so desired. No need to deputize you for that.

The woman specifically asked me to inform her if I received another nomination, even though having two would improve my chances it strikes me as dishonest to simply ignore her request.

All to same SA?

Wishful - congrats to your DD! Are the norms from each MOC to the same SA?

They were for last year & to the same SA.

Anthony 96: Dishonesty equals lying. I am not suggesting you do that. It is just that for me I have found that, "No good deed goes unpunished." I know from experience that when I do "the right thing," there may be a price to pay for making that decision, and I am willing to pay it. From your post, you seem willing to potentially lose a nom in order to comply with a request. All I am saying is that sometimes it's OK to put yourself first. Like when you are in a competition, for example. Hypothetical at this point, anyway.

FYI: My DD, was never asked to contact the panel after her interviews and the nom timeline did not play out in a way that she could have, if she was.

BTW: Congrats on your nomination to USNA. Good luck. The SA's need more Northeasterners!

Wishful,

Don't get me wrong, I get your perspective, but look at my tag line.

Integrity First. Service before self. This is.every military members motto.

This is the world you are entering. The fact is nobody asked your child, but the other poster was directly asked to report any nom. The MOC may still decide to offer the non, or they may not, but it was a directive set, and jmpo, if that is the directive than they should follow it. Karma is a beaaaaacccchhhh!

Life in the military will never be placing yourself 1st....if it was than when I was past my due date for our 3rd child (had a 4 and 2 yr old already) the 82nd AB would have not sent Bullet into the field for a week to play war games! OBTW, DS1 was born in 3 hrs, DD in 47 mins....he was 90 mins away from home...he never would have made it in time according to my doc. Nor will they send you to Hawaii or Germany over a remote to Korea. This is the life you are entering.

I am not trying to be rude. I am just saying that for me I believe Anthony's perspective is on track for what their life will be like for the next 9 years(4 SA + 5 AD).

I will also say 2 other things.
~ I believe in fate/destiny...many kids, especially in a state like VA get in with 1 nom and many kids with 3 home get a TWE
~ Some posters/lurkers may be quite distressed by your post.
~~~~~Look at the conversation going on in the ROTC forums regarding holding onto a scholarship after receiving an appointment. It is in the regs that this is allowed, but for some posters they find it not to be honorable to do so. If you are curious, in that situation I do not see it as dishonest, because it is a directive that they are following set forth by a reg.
Think about it....Anthony is just following a directive set forth by the MOC.
Congrats to your child on their noms .
Anthony,
Do what you are comfortable with, and if it is not getting another nom because you did inform them, than don't sweat it. You'd be surprised how many competitive candidates from spread the wealth states get 2 noms .
Just be smart and have plan B ( ROTC scholarship) ...I would say the same to a cadet with 4 noms too!
Press Releases for Gillibrand's noms
I just noticed as of this evening that Senator Gillibrand's web site has press releases for all of her nominations for this year. Congrats to all those listed.
Thank you Jshawshank! When DD spoke to the office yesterday, she was told that she did NOT have to relinquish her nom from Sen Gillibrand even though she had rec'd one from our congressman. Now both have shown up on her portal. She will be letting Schumer's office know that she rec'd the others, however. I am relieved because I know that someone who had interviewed with our congressman has an LOA and she does not. I do not know for sure whether that young man received the nom or not. I also don't know if anyone on Sen Gillibrand's USMA slate has an LOA.
Congratulations to all! Even though we were notified a couple of weeks ago, it is still very exciting to see it in print on the Senator's website. Good luck everyone!
