There isn't anything you should need. If you haven't already, you should contact the cadre at the detachment you'll be attending and let them know you're planning on joining AFROTC. Some detachments have an orientation program a couple days before the University orientation. They'll give you any information you need before arriving on campus.

Check out www.afrotc.com for the basic important information. I don't mind answering any specific questions - I just graduated and commissioned this year and there are definitely a few other cadets/new Lt's around here that can help also.

No contracts until you either get a scholarship, or when you come back from SFT (summer field training) the summer between your sophomore & junior years. So unless you get an AFROTC scholarship, you can leave anytime you like your first two years.

There are some cases where scholarships are given for specific jobs. The most recent was a Missileer scholarship. Make sure you learn as much as you can about these jobs before you sign. Otherwise, you can end up choosing your job either in your junior or senior year.

For uniforms, that differs from det to det. In my det, you have to earn them, so it can take a semester or two before you earn both uniforms (blues & ABUs). Other dets seem to give them out willy nilly. Either way, youll be instructed on that when the time comes (probably sometime in august, so long as they know you are joining).

Keep an open mind, be a good listener, learn quickly, understand youll make mistakes (plenty of mistakes), and be a good wingman.

You should invest in a good pair of running shoes. There are a lot of threads on this subject. Here is one http://www.serviceacademyforums.com...p-for-plebe-summer-running.48179/#post-478658

Nike Lunarglides. I swear by those shoes. Fantastic for long distances on a hard surface (concrete).
