Newbie to Military

Hi Everyone!

My name is Mary and our family is from CO. Our son will be a part of the 2014 Class at USNA. Jeff is our oldest and we have no experience with the military or with the academies. We are very proud of Jeff and are excited for this new adventure. The emotions that I'm feelings are like a roller coaster. Sme days I can't decide if I'm happy, sad or confused. I think what I need is a good cry so I can move on. Wasn't it just yesterday when he was a toddler? Anyway, I look forward to making new friends with all of you. I'm so impressed with the talent and maturity of the midshipmen. They are all devoting their lives to this mission and it blows my mind.

First, Welcome. Your can be very proud of your son. He is about to embark on one of the greatest challenges of his life. And so will your family. He has decided to make what I call his the best decision a young person of today can make, because there are some young people today, who feel they can just let other people do what needs to be done. Not in your sons case, he made a choice to go to once of the best educational institutions in the country and get a really good education. Stand up defend freedom and make a difference, not just sit on the sidelines. Enjoy the ride and enjoy it with him, always give him encouragement, because everyday won't be rosy. Tell, him I say thank you for his service to the greatest country that ever was or ever will be. If you care do to so, anytime and need to send a PM.

Hi Mary,

Welcome to the USNA family. As you start to enjoy "the ride," remember that many of us have lived through our Mids' Plebe years (or in some cases, people have "been there, done that"). We're here to be supportive of you and your family as you support your Plebe-to-be. Best wishes to your son and his classmates, and all the families of the Class of 2014!
