Nmmi 2013-2014

Youll really get a kick out of the Walmart with aliens painted all over the front of the windows. The folks in Roswell have a great sense of humor for the alien landing reputation.

Study hard and good luck to you

Thanks!

You are allowed to go, but some SLA's (Squadron Leadership Advisors) make you get permission to study with people that aren't in your squadron during NSH. It's better to meet at the library.

Best piece of advice: don't go to KP and act like you are better than anyone because you went to NMMI. A lot of the times the NMMI guys are super cocky and get a bad rep from the inception.

I will promise not to grow prideful. I am just thankful to receive an opportunity as a prep. Thanks for the advice

Library it is! Do you know how much influence placement exams for preps place on their actual schedules?

They have a little bit of exams. The tests I took were not used in my course selection this year. I wish they were because I was unprepared for a lot of the classes I took first semester. If you feel a class is too hard for you switch it regardless of what the prep advisor tells you.

What do you recommend I take if I took Pre-calc this year and haven't taken chemistry since 10th grade and remember virtually nothing. Physics is on a whole other planet for me as well because my school never offered it. If I do need to switch out, how do I go about doing so? What courses were you assigned first semester?

Were you appointed after going to NMMI? Is a 2.5 the GPA minimum for sponsored preps?

You will probably take Calculus when you get here. Talk to the advisor about getting into Intro to Physics and Chemistry. You can talk to the advisor about switching out. He didn't let me do that this year and it showed in my grades. If he doesn't you can use something called Self Service once you get here. First semester I had precalc, chemistry, physics, freshmen comp, college first year experience, military science, and prep orientation. 17 credit hours worth of classes. I have not yet recieved my appointment I'll hear back from the final review board after May 29th.

Can you elaborate what 'self-service' is at NMMI? And best of luck! Were you sponsored? I thought that as long as you maintain 2.5 or higher as a sponsored prep, that you are guaranteed appointment.

Self Service has the grades for your classes, it allows you to register for classes and things like that. You'll get papers soon that tell you how to logon to self service and what it is. I am sponsored. The contract says maintain a 2.0 GPA to be considered. You'll get the contract when you get here.

How many sponsored preps are not accepted after excelling in prep school?

There isn't a specific number. As a sponsored prep your spot is guaranteed as long as you meet the requirements in the contract.

Awesome. I hope all goes well with you. Thank you for your advice and sharing information with me.

Class Switching?????? Really????

I've been following this thread with great interest and would like to set things straight.

For MMA SPONSORED preps - you will get a class schedule based on your contract with the USMMA. Your placement tests, high school transcript, and standardized test scores (ACT/SAT) will determine what level you start at. Initially, I build the schedule, send it to the USMMA and we dicsuss any modifications. This is all done prior to your arrival.

"Wizards" is correct in that I do adjust schedules for SELF Preps. Normally this is done with the input from the student and instructor if the student wants to move up a level.

These classes are NOT easy. They are not designed to be that way. We do not teach remedial courses to preps. Prep courses will be demanding - then again so will the classes you take at the Academy.
