No Appointment or TWE....just Crickets

I am also waiting for a notification for the class of 2020. I called admissions at 4:30 PM and they told me that results will come out today. And they said something about falcon scholarships and prep school offers come out May 1.

I was nominated by Congressman Sarbanes MD-03.

How will we find out? Phone call, email or do we have to keep checking the portal?
Admissions told me the "email side of portal".
So i guess check your portal today! But I think you get an email anyways if you get a message on your portal.

Seems as if every year changes just slightly. "Insider" stated that most of the Falcon Foundation Scholarships were coming from the TWE pool...but didn't say ALL.
Highly unlikely. In order to receive a Falcon Foundation Scholarship, you have to be denied admission to USAFA. Basically, you need a TWE in hand. However, as others have mentioned, it will be a while until you hear about these scholarship offerings. They don't come out until after the TWEs do.

DS (and I) waiting as well. I ran out to mailbox after reading about the mass TWE's going out. Still nothing. If portal updates tonight, then hopefully news tomorrow AM. I told my DS whether you get selected first or last doesn't matter...Just an honor to be selected.

I honestly wouldn't expect to see anything today. It might take some time to process the information and, it appears to me, the data to be transferred to the portals. Just from the evidence that I've seen, updates from one server to another happen over night. I suspect for security reasons, these servers may not even be on the same network.

Make a concerted effort to have a fun/relaxing weekend & check Monday morning
Can you tell me if a candidate was going to be considered for prep school, would they more likely remain a candidate through the release of appointments and non select letters until the May 1 date mentioned for prep slots and FF scholarship offers?

I'm starting to think its not coming today. Did anyone get anything?

Again, not likely that this has an impact, at least not for the Falcon Foundation Scholarship.

As far as the qualifications go, I have posted the link for the Foundation's website a couple times on different threads. There are no specific qualifications other than being 3Q'd for USAFA and being turned down. How the Foundation picks its scholars is a mystery to me.. but I do know that those who receive one are very lucky! Only ~100 are given every year.

My DD received her TWE last year in mid-April and then after two-weeks of thinking we had no chance for USAFA, we received this letter for the Falcon Foundation Scholarship:

Letter from USAFA Admissions dated April 30, 2015
Dear XXXX,
Although you did not receive an appointment to the USAF Academy Class of 2019, you have a very good record of accomplishment. You are qualified to receive a prestigious Falcon Foundation Scholarship to attend a special Academy preparatory program for the Class of 2020. Virtually all who successfully complete this program are admitted to the Air Force Academy.
The Falcon Foundation offers scholarships (in varying amounts, depending on the school selected) to attend one of the seven participating schools for highly motivated young people seeking admission to the Air Force Academy.
These schools also offer additional scholarships. The combination of scholarships will defray a major portion but not all of the costs. If you are firmly committed to attend the Academy and are willing to devote extra time toward this goal, you should strongly consider this opportunity. Contact information and costs for each school are attached to this letter.
You have been tentatively selected for a Falcon Foundation Scholarship. Please accept or decline this offer online at:
https://admissions.usafa.edu/gateway/gateway.aspx
You must respond (yes or no) by May 10, 2015. If you do not respond by then your offer will be automatically withdrawn. Accepting this scholarship in no way jeopardizes or cancels your current candidacy for entrance to the Academy.
Also, you must select the school you wish to attend before you can accept this offer. We encourage you to immediately start researching the different schools so you can make your choice and accept this offer before it expires. Some of the schools limit the number of students that may attend, and the Falcon Foundation also limits attendance at some of the schools for budgetary reasons. To lock in your first choice you should select a school and accept this offer as soon as possible.
We wish you luck in your pursuit of an Air Force Academy appointment.

THE FALCON FOUNDATION FACT SHEET
GENERAL INFORMATION
A group of prominent retired Air Force officers organized the Falcon Foundation in 1958, three years after the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) admitted its first class.
The Falcon Foundation is a 501(c)(3), non-profit foundation. Its purpose is to provide scholarships to College or Preparatory Schools for motivated young people seeking admission to USAFA and a career in the Air Force.
Although it is a separate organization, the Falcon Foundation works closely with USAFA. Information concerning the Foundation and its scholarship program appears in the USAFA Catalog and can be viewed at: www.falconfoundation.org

SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS
Young people are automatically eligible for a Falcon Scholarship by first applying to USAFA. The USAFA Office of Admissions then identifies potential recipients of the Falcon Foundation scholarship from a pool of direct entry applicants who are qualified, but not competitive for entering the next class at USAFA. Those applicants who are deemed qualified but not competitive are rank ordered and contacted for consideration of a Falcon Foundation Scholarship.

APPOINTMENT DURING PREP SCHOOL YEAR
Falcon Scholars identified by the Admissions Office as having the potential to be successful at USAFA following successful completion of their preparatory program and attainment of admissions guidelines will be considered for appointment. Barring unusual circumstances, the Air Force Academy is committed to appointing Falcon Scholars who:
1. Successfully complete their preparatory program
2. Continue to meet the admissions guidelines
3. Obtain a nomination valid for the year of entry into
USAFA Falcon Scholars will be required to follow standard admissions procedures for all Academy candidates during their preparatory year to include obtaining a new nomination for the year of entry to USAFA.

So the bottom-line is to not give up even if you received a TWE.

BTW my DD is still waiting for her appointment...the wait is killing us too!

Would you mind sharing which prep schools you selected for your Falcon Foundation scholarships? Why did you choose the one you did? Anyone who went or is at the USAFA prep school, can you tell me when you got that offer? Date? Did you remain in candidate status until the USAFA prep offer? Thanks so much!

My DS was offered a prep slot on 4/4/15. He had remained a candidate, did not receive TWE. Although, I have seen others who were offered prep at the end April last year.

It's gonna take a few days to process the information even though the decisions were finalized today.
Ok thank you for the clarification a post above lead me to believe it would be updated today like the counselor said

My DD selected Greystone Prep at Schreiner University in Kerrville, TX. We talked to a number of the civilian prep schools and we were most comfortable with CMDR Dave Bailey at Greystone Prep (http://greystoneprepschool.org/). He is a USNA '82 grad and a NWP grad and he wanted to make a better prep school program for the academies. He runs a great program--only 34 kids in the program this year with 10 Falcon Foundation. They have an excellent track record of getting students into a service academy and having them complete four years. We were also very impressed with Northwestern Prep, but we felt that a year-long program taking university-level courses for my DD was the best fit. My DD needed the structure and she has matured so much during this last year. She will complete 35 credit hours taking Chemistry/Physics/Calculus/English/Psychology at Schreiner University. They also do PT in the morning before class and it greatly helped her CFA scores. It was tough for her but it has definitely prepared her better for the academy.

Great info! Good luck to your DD if she is still waiting on appointment.

DD will be enlisting if she is not offered a Prep spot (she is out for direct and Falcon). This has been the plan all along. She will enter as an E3, work her butt off until she ranks to E5 and she will then reapply (hoping) through the LEAD program. No giving up for her!

Class of 2020 LEAD applicant here. I've been enlisted for almost four years now and am currently an E-4 testing for E-5 this year. I am applying for direct appointment to the USAFA because my age renders me ineligible for the preparatory school. I have known four Airman get picked up for the prep school from AD and am helping another Airman in my squadron submit his package for the class of 2021. In the event that your DD does not get accepted into the prep school and instead enlists, it is my opinion that she should definitely consider applying to the USAFA earlier in her enlisted career rather than later. The chances of her getting picked up for a prep school slot while she still meets the age requirements are significantly higher than the odds of a direct appointment, especially if she has a solid civilian record to reinforce her accomplishments while she is enlisted.

While it is ambitious and admirable to want to make E-5 before submitting her application through LEAD, she'd basically have to strategically plan out her entire enlisted career and accomplish every task she needs to first try. Step one is enlisting as E-3 from day 1 of BMT. Step two is working toward and earning SrA below-the-zone before 1 February, which means she'd have to enlist specifically in the month of March to keep her time in service at a minimum to help with making the age cutoff. Then, once she has put on E-4 BTZ, step 3 is studying for and passing her WAPS test. When she does that, she'll be granted a promotion date and a "line number" (which are both announced in late August each year). Depending on her line number, she could put on E-5 within a few months to a year of finding out her line number.

I say all of this because I don't think it's worth the time and energy to strive specifically for E-5 before applying to the USAFA. It might make her application look a little better, but not enough to warrant nearly four years of strategically going from day-to-day not able to mess up in fear of your entire plan shattering to pieces. And besides, she's in a much better position professionally to apply as an E-3 or E-4 while not bogged down by the administrative workload of a junior NCO. All of this is just my personal opinion, so take this as you see fit.
