I haven't taken a foreign language yet in high school and I am currently a junior, class of 2016. I know that it is recommended to take 2 years of foreign language in high school, but will not having 2 years foreign language hurt my resume a lot?

My high school works on an 18 week(semester) system where each course is one semester(each class is 90 minutes each day and we have 4 classes a day). This means that I could take Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 in my senior year, with Spanish 2 being in the Spring semester. Would West Point acknowledge that fact that I am signed up to take Spanish 2 in the spring semester(which is after the application process is over) and factor it into the admission process? Also, are 2 courses of a foreign equivalent to 2 years of a foreign language?

My grad was on the semester system and he took Spanish 1 and 2 like you mentioned. They will see that you are taking it in the Spring and you will be fine. My grad ended up with French at West Point.

Definitely get those languages in though! Most if not all four year universities require at least two years of a foreign language (e. g. Spanish 1 and 2, French 1 and 2), and it's certainly good to have a back up plan.

Your school is not setting students up for success by not requiring foreign language. 95% of the time you need two years

Our hs recently changed where it's not required for grad (!!), but almost every college requires it. We try to make sure kids understand that they need this. If you are hoping for USMA, you need a foreign language.
