My son is 3Q with a nom and requested a CVW but did not receive one:confused: He was told by one of the Academy coaches that his application looks "very strong" but unfortunately, this coach has no pull in terms of filling spots on the team (offshore sailing). Should we be reading the writing on the wall? Reading this forum, it seems like there are lots of CVW's to go around for strong candidates who request them. We are trying not to get discouraged. Any thoughts?

Has your son requested one from his regional director and B&G officer? If the remaining sessions are full, maybe there's a waiting list? I know it's tough, but try not to get discouraged. We're here for you while we wait, too! :thumb:

You have to wonder if sometimes applicants get overlooked! Maybe you should contact admissions and request a visit I don't think they would mind in fact they would probably like the fact that you have the expressed interest.

Last year our now plebe son did not get a CVW until AFTER he received his appointment ... then they squeezed him in ... and it was well worth it ... Contacting the admissions office did not help before the appointment letter came ... and we thought that meant he had little chance. WRONG!! (at least for us ...) so hang in there ... but have a good Plan B ...

There are many more well-qualified candidates who want a CVW than available spots. Thus, not getting one isn't necessarily a negative and I wouldn't read too much into it.

That said, this year as always, there will be many triple Q'ed candidates who don't get appointments -- including some who DID get CVWs. It's a numbers game. As someone above said, be patient and -- as should EVERY candidate -- be sure to have a Plan B.

To confirm my colleague above, I caution my candidates to keep loose and be flexible; this process has a tendency to bounce more like a football than a baseball or basketball. You really do need to have at least a Plan B, and possibly a Plan C. One key certainly is to be persistent, another is to be certain to keep your file updated. Offers flow out of Leahy Hall well into May and even June.

Sincere best wishes to all serious candidates - it is very much worth it!

Thanks for all the god advice. And yes, while very committed and still hopeful, son definitely has plans B and C -- and has been accepted to some of them already. We've only seen Big White Envelopes so far, which is nice, but he's still holding out for the one that has United States Navy in the upper left hand corner.
Best of luck to all of you too!

How to request an invitation to CVW.

I hope everyone is doing well. I am also a USNA class of 2014 candidate. I have been reading about people getting accepted to CVW and was wondering how you request a invitation to CVW. Just a little background information on myself. I'm college student graduating with a two year degree in aviation management and I have a pilots license. I am going to be graduating in may with a 3.5 or better from college. Can anyone help me with my question. Can i request an invitation to CVW, and if so, how do I do it?
Thanks
-Steven

Thanks

Thank you for replying to my post. I was in Annapolis a few months ago only to visit the campus. But I really think that it would be great to return to CVW. Do you think that there would be a strong chance for me to be able to do this?

My son requested a CVW and was given some dates to choose from. He emailed his regional director and he responded fairly quickly. I think there are still some dates available!
