Unfortunately, this is what happens when "conditions" are placed on good deeds. People get their feelings hurt, people hear and read contradictory things, people start to take sides, etc. It's a real shame. Glad to see "Cookie Cafe" may well continue, but if so, there should be absolutely ZERO religious connection in any shape or form. There is a chaplaincy program on campus with a leader and a leadership structure. "Volunteer" ministers are not needed unless they fully agree to comply with existing regulations and willingly support the leadership team.
I am 100% certain that the Guests were and are great people with only the very best of intentions regarding Kings Point and its Midshipmen at heart, and would not knowingly do anything to usurp the authority of those in charge at the Academy. However, they seem to have made the correct decision for both themselves and for Kings Point in deciding to bow out after deciding that they could not operate as they wished within the current guidelines. I see this as a decision by the Guests. That's the thing about volunteerism. You are free to stop when you feel it in your best interests to do so or when the situation changes such that you feel you can no longer volunteer.
I, for one, am very thankful for all the time, energy and funds the Guests put in supporting the Midshipmen of Kings Point. And, I am pleased that Cookie Cafe may well continue, but under the guidance of the Parents Association.
God speed to the Guests. May you find a new place to continue your ministry.
