Hello!

Recently I received a nomination to my first choice of the Military Academy. The Naval Academy was definitely my second choice, but I did not receive a nomination to the school. Because I did not receive a nomination to the Naval Academy, am I completely out of the game? Or should I just finish my application anyways?

Thanks in advance, I just wanted to make sure I tied all the loose ends.

Did you apply for the VP nomination? Or qualify for Presidential? ROTC?

Sort of

Yes, I applied to the VP nominations and did not qualify for Presidential. I heard the VP nominations are only to people who contribute money to the campaign/political connections etc. I wouldn't be crushed if I don't have the opportunity to be admitted to USNA (like I said, first choice is USMA) but I just wanted to know if I can stop the application process.

From my understanding you are not necessarily out of the process. If you are considered a highly competitive applicant, there is a possibility that you can be placed on the national wait list. However, when dealing with terms like "if," "possibility," and "can," it is important to note that it is not a guarantee. I would finish the application, but not waste too much extra thought on it.

VP NOM

The SA decides who gets the VP NOM (some years 2 NOMs). As much as I hate this administration and such, I believe the VP NOM is not a payoff in any form or fashion.

As far as I know, the VP noms as stated before me are determined by the SAs. I received a letter from USNA a few days ago notifying me that they received notification of my request for a VP nom. This is simply because I completed the short application required for it. So all in all, no you are not out of the game because the VP nom could allow you to receive an offer of appointment.

I don't know if they still send candidates with no nominations to NAPS anymore, but they used to.
